Heat Scheme | Home services Providing support to UK homeowners and renters to save money, reduce emissions and improve comfort at home, with variety of home services.

It's not via the Cycle to Work scheme, it's through salary sacrifice (which Cycle to Work and EV purchases use as well). The one company I know who uses this system (we work with them at the BFI) is Heat Scheme www.heatscheme.co.uk They're super friendly and start from "let's save you money".

I appreciate a lot of people can't afford the upfront costs, so I did a bit of looking into options with zero upfront cost, in case helpful for anyone. Expect the Govt will announce more details on 0% loans for solar soon too

Got our solar panels installed this AM. They came at 8:30am and we're gone by 1:30pm. 13 panels and 10kwh battery.

We can't export to the grid yet (the network operator has been flooded with new requests) but we charged our car with the sun this afternoon. Great feeling, strongly recommend.

Happy 80th birthday to the fab Tim Curry, pictured with Rocky Horror creator, Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff & Patricia Quinn as Magenta. I once interviewed O'Brien who said that Frank n' Furter was a reflection of his own diverse sexuality. For moderns who like absolutes -sometimes there aren't any.

Unfortunately we need 'industrial scale' solar projects because we are an industrial scale country.

Solar on rooftops is great (getting ours installed on Mon!) but it only gets you so far.

I don't know why this is so hard for some people to grasp. If we extend our use of fossil gas, rather than going all-out for grid batteries, heat pumps and induction hobs, we extend our dependence on *foreign* sources of gas, regardless of whether we also use the UK's last remaining reserves. 🧵

my pro tip for freelancers is that if you're constantly posting about needing work, make sure the first thing an editor sees when they click on your profile isn't a wall of you being abrasive and unpleasant to peers

Please add 100% electric buses to the long list of good things that mediocre men said couldn’t be done, because they need things to fail in order to feel validated.

Or tax cars over a certain weight more and drop the tax relief / avoidance scheme of buying a "truck" that's actually a giant SUV with a tiny little cargo bed in the back. That is not a "work truck", it's someone's compensating and also getting a tax break.

A two-megawatt turbine pays back its build energy and emissions in 6-12 months, then runs clean for the next 25+ years.

The fossil fuel industry doesn’t own the sun and the air.

That’s why they’ve spent billions electing puppets to attack and delay the renewable revolution.

Cannot believe the number of people in Jonathan’s replies insisting that is in fact good left wing green policy to subsidise the fuel consumption of someone driving a Land Rover around Kensington

National Grid: Live Shows the live status of Great Britain’s electric power transmission network

Is there an way to find out how often/ for how long we've actually run a gas-independent grid? All I can find is either grid.iamkate.com (currently at 4.5% gas) or looking for news articles at the end of a year. Is "need more cables down from Scotland" really why we can't get rid of the 4.5%?

"We should be doing it more thoughtfully, and more slowly" says lady in this article....
No. We shouldn't. We've had fifty fucking years to do things carefully and slowly and what that's mean is that we've done bugger all in that time to even keep pace with climate change (1)

I have repeatedly had this arguement with people who are supposedly green and climate concious.

'No transition until just transition, do it right, its a little extra time and expense.'

No. A climate emergency means something. We need to move quick and at huge scale. Thats what a emergency requires

There is no solar power crisis. No wind power crisis. No insulation crisis. No heat pump crisis. No e-bike crisis. No electric bus crisis. But there is a #fossilfuel crisis. And a #climatecrisis.

Wait, do they mean to tell us that 1% of land is what is needed for energy independence and that's what triggers all the protests, but 3.3% of land is used for *gamebird shooting*? That's even funnier than @techconnectify.bsky.social 's US equivalents
