I know that our community deserves more, and until we have leaders who will authentically represent the interests of all kids in the district, we’ll have more of the same. The status quo is simply not working.
Let’s push together for change. Now.

Let’s have some honest conversations about what we expect from the school board, and their responsibilities to all sectors of the district, regardless of zip code. It is time for accountability- that’s why I am running for SBISD Trustee.

In years past, policies were made by previous school boards that maybe I didn’t agree with. But now, there is a deep divide of trust in the community with this board and superintendent.

•On the whole, adopting/proposing policies that fit in with extreme Christian nationalism
•Ignoring the community ask for more equitable representation on the school board through single member districts or a hybrid model

•Promising that Spring Shadows Elementary would be rebuilt as part of the bond then closing the campus to convert to a police substation
•Attempting to silence a former superintendent, and by proxy others, by proposing a name change to the Duncan Klussman Education Center

•Imposing restroom policies harmful to the LGBTQIA + community
•Enforcing policy where welcoming signage, i.e. safe space, Black Lives Matter, rainbow, flags, or historically black universities pennants had to be removed

•Re-organization of libraries and loss of librarians
•Removing the ability of principals to determine their campus schedules
•Closing six schools on the northside without buy-in from affected communities
•Usurping power to review book challenges, away from teachers and professionally trained staff

It’s been devastating for those in the community, historically on the north side of the district, who lack a voice on the school board.
To illustrate, let’s recap what has been happening in our district recently.
These are actions from our board and superintendent:

To the SBISD community-
For generations, we’ve had a divide in our district between the haves and the have-nots. Year after year, we’ve seen decisions reinforcing inequities and partiality for those who have a representation and a seat at the table.
