Great to see this out! Congratulations!
🚨 Why can’t mammals regenerate limbs like frog tadpoles or salamanders?
In our new paper in @science.org , we show that species-specific oxygen sensing acts as a gatekeeper for initiating limb regeneration 🐭🐸

Very happy to see this work finally published!
I am truly grateful to all the collaborators who made this work possible, especially @ioansarr.bsky.social, @marisepp.bsky.social, and @kaessmannlab.bsky.social. It’s been a pleasure working with you!
Congratulations!!
Have we been overstating the role of transposable elements in adaptation to local or rapidly changing environmental conditions? Happy to share my (somewhat unpopular?) opinion paper on this matter: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Thanks to those who already shared the link!
🚨We are recruiting two PhD students 🚨
1) Quantitative & dynamic analysis of limb-regenerative signaling centers w/ @osvaldo-chara.bsky.social 📶🧮💻

The IMPRS-BAC is an outstanding PhD program in Europe. And the endogenous retroviruses in development... what can I say? So much exciting biology to uncover! 🦠🧬#TEsky #StemCells

🪱 Selfish genes are everywhere and drive some of biology’s biggest innovations (CRISPR, antibody recombination, epigenetics). Yet almost no one asks the obvious question: how does a selfish gene begin? Our new manuscript uncovers how selfishness can emerge directly from the host genome.
Did transposable elements shape brain evolution — and if so, which ones, and in which cell states and lineages? Led by @tyamadat.bsky.social, we explored this question in cerebellum development using sequence-based deep learning models!

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of our founder, colleague, mentor and friend, Professor Sir John Gurdon. His vision and dedication will continue to inspire generations of scientists.

“For Gurdon to continue in biology would be a complete waste of time both for him and for those who would have to teach him”
He proved them wrong! RIP John Gurdon

I am excited to share that I will join the Friedrich Miescher Institute @fmiscience.bsky.social in Basel as a group leader, starting my lab in March 2026 🎉
We will explore cell fate regulation during organogenesis, with a focus on how cell elimination underlies the emergence of functional tissues.
Finally out! 🥳 Our paper showing how a transposable element (TE) insertion can cause developmental phenotypes is now published @natgenet.nature.com 🧬🦠🐁
Below is a brief description of the major findings. Check the full version of the paper for more details: www.nature.com/articles/s41588-025-02248-5

🧬🌽 Happy Transposon Day! 🌽🧬
Today we celebrate the birthday of Barbara McClintock - scientist extraordinaire and discoverer of jumping genes. Still the only woman to have an unshared Nobel Prize in the biomedical sciences #TransposonDay2025
Thank you so much!
Come to Lund! We are looking for a postdoc to join the team. #transposons #epigenetics
Huge congrats, Diego!
Thrilled to announce that I am looking for a Research Technician/Assistant to join my lab @imbavienna.bsky.social. Please consider applying if you’re enthusiastic about #devbio #stemcells #teamwork and excited to help shaping a new lab!

Thank you, Miguel! Any feedback is welcome.
Thank you, just updated!🙏
New preprint of my postdoc work! We found a novel group of zinc-finger proteins that rapidly evolved in a lineage-specific manner to repress regulatory activities of transposon-derived sequences through anchoring nucleosomes. #TEsky
