Honest politics demands that the independents not give their support to either Labor or the LNP before the election All negotiation should be done on the floor of the parliament, not stitched up in advance

After an interesting discussion on here over the weekend, I wrote something about why demanding the independents say now who they will "support" if the xbench has the balance of power is the wrong way to understand what is at stake.

Here's Why Human Sex Is Not Binary Ova don’t make a woman, and sperm don’t make a man

Sexual binary? Nah, it never existed in the first place.

How community independent campaigns actually work I’m standing in Yulecart Memorial Hall on the Dartmoor-Hamilton Road, just west of Hamilton, Victoria. The building is 100 years old, made of bluestone and well used to community action. On the front ...

@cathyindigovalley.bsky.social flipped the script, making it easier than ever to identify independents running grassroots campaigns across the nation. These movements are creating real, viable alternatives to the major parties.

This is politics done differently—and done the right way.

You might have seen reports of the Liberal Party whining that I, as your community independent, spend too much time "opposing the opposition."
Here’s what the major parties don’t get: THIS IS NOT ABOUT THEM. IT’S NEVER BEEN ABOUT THEM. IT’S ABOUT YOU.

A graph that tells a story. Blue is the $billions revenue made by the Oil & Gas sector. Orange is the $billions revenue made by the government. Both Labor and Liberal governments have supported this loss of $billions revenue for the Australian people to fund the infrastructure and services we need.

What does community grassroots campaigning look like - people volunteering their front garden, their fence, their social license, their courage to say to their neighbours this is who I am supporting to represent me. Every sign starts a conversation about how Australian politics can be different.

California Fire Facts | Governor Gavin Newsom Get the facts about the Los Angeles fires.

Trump and his MAGA minions in Congress and the press are lying about the Los Angeles fires in order to politicize the tragedy.

So Gov. Gavin Newsom launched a website to fact-check the liars. Bookmark it, and use it to counter the lies.

Having seen the short sightedness in politics, I agree fixed 4yr terms are needed.

But this requires a referendum.

In the meantime we could legislate an election date for fixed 3yr terms.

Endless speculation re election date is ridiculous & unproductive.

Over the past three days, the temperature in South Australia, including overnight, has averaged over 27°, touching 40° at times. Despite that, SA had over 75% renewables, no blackouts, no load shedding and an average generation price half that of NSW and Queensland. #renewables #auspol

Never mind the fact the Coalition’s nuclear proposal is a fantasy – it doesn’t even claim to reduce power bills Experts and agencies have overwhelmingly deemed the plan not to be credible. And burning more coal and gas in the medium term only leads one way

"Yes, we stuffed-up the roll-out of some car parks. And the roll-out of the NBN (less effective, more expensive). But I think you'll find that when it comes to the roll-out of small modular uranium reactors AND safely storing the waste, we’re the guys for the job."

Liberal Leader Peter Dutton's declaration that he won't stand in front of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags if he becomes PM reveals 2 things about him. He actively looks for ways to
• disrespect Indigenous Australians
• nurture racism and division
He's a nasty piece of work. 😔 #auspol

The party that blew out the cost by 235% of a inland rail designed for freight that it also decided not to start or end at Melbourne or Brisbane and so is pointless is yeah going to deliver nuclear power on time and on cost.

Nuclear power keeps the corporates in charge. No wonder it's conservatives' preferred solution to climate change | Tim Hollo Tony Abbott says he has ‘no theological objection’ to nuclear power. That’s fair – only blind faith could justify his belief in a power source that’s so costly and risky

Here is @timhollo.bsky.social A DECADE AGO pointing out Liberals only support nuclear energy as a culture war. It was as true then - under Abbott - as it is now under Dutton. Repeat after me: Dutton’s nuclear plan is all about delaying climate action. That’s it.

Coalition’s claim international students ‘almost doubled’ under Labor misleads The opposition's claims about a steep rise in international student numbers under Labor don't account for the significant drop in enrolments during the pandemic.

Coalition politicians claim that international student numbers have "almost doubled" under the Labor government. However, figures have risen by just over two-thirds — which experts attribute to the post-pandemic reopening of borders.
