Text: As social media platforms continue to wither under the combined forces of malicious trolls, capricious algorithms, and maniacal billionaires, we at NYRA feel compelled to seek out alternatives. Our search has been exhaustive, but in the end we arrived right back where we started. Turns out the answer was right under our noses—and our laptops—the whole time: the table.

Tables—timeless social technologies, and literal platforms—are so ubiquitous and apparently mundane that, unlike those prejudicial social media platforms, their character and effect on everyday life are easily overlooked. While social media platforms plumb ever-deepening nadirs of algorithmic awfulness, tables support and uplift whatever they carry. Tables have no connectivity issues and never collect user data. Tables can’t lie, and if they become unbalanced and wobbly, the fix is easy, intuitive, and quick. Tables are stable, and at NYRA we value structural integrity.

To help grow this exciting alternative social platform, we want to do our part by putting issues of NYRA onto as many tables as we can manage. We’re looking to you, our readers, to put copies of NYRA on all your favorite tables. These might be tables in your home, at your workplace, in a classroom, or—better yet—a public space, maybe with someone sitting at them ready to strike up a conversation and connect IRL, rather than via URL.

I saw it in theaters. There were some gorgeous images but I thought the movie was alright.

The famous green owl app Duolingo is going even harder into AI made by stolen content. It's not curated by native speakers so you have no idea if what you're learning is correct. Their algorithm overall tries to hit the happy brain juices instead of helping you learn. So here are some alternatives!

I feel like there must be an impish spirit in my house. I swear more and more of my spoons are going missing. Soon I will be left with only one. I shall have to do research on lore and I will comment my findings!

Took myself to a play today. Was sat in the first row and really felt like I was transported. The story was dark and well acted. I am not a theater critic but it is totally worth a watch. Also they did so much with one room and a direct story. #aguideforthehomesick

Gosh I hate self tapes. One never knows if what they are doing is too much or not. Hahaha. Though I am happy people are thinking of me for these zany projects and asking me to submit one. ♥️
