RIP Reinhold Wittig, one of the big gaming pioneers in Germany has sadly passed away.

In the 80s he was THE small indie-publisher, who established the "tube cames", i.e. games in a cube here.

Also his artwork of games like Müller&Co is one of the best until today.

You will be surprised how expensive the game box can be. So try to reduce its size if possible (especially if you are considering crowdfunding or shipping the games yourself).

Put 500-1000 USD on the side for safety testing and preproduction copies.

Also note that there are significant price differences between different factories and that the prices for cardboard/paper have increased a lot in the last 10 years.

Consider asking for options. Which for sure only makes sense if the factory shows prices for each item in your quote.

Please be aware that the upcoming fuel/energy crisis will likely disrupt a lot of prices especially if you are also considering doing the shipping on your own.

Panda has a very nice component calculator (which can give you a very rough idea) and in general very good resources for learning something about the manufacturing side.

You will see very big price jumps from 1000 to 5000 copies. Once you have reached 10-20k copies the numbers will flatten.

I don't keep track but my estimates would be.

A) 90% as I try to look at most pitches.

B) 5-10%. And the number is getting lower as I try to be even more selective. Especially as I always try to give useful feedback.

C) 1-5% as I only want to only release as few games as make sense for me.
