“The Fix” is an important new book by a brilliant former US attorney, now a leading U of Michigan law professor and TV commentator. I recommend pre-ordering it now!

No justice could deny that Trump’s EO violates the 1952 Act of Congress conferring citizenship on exactly the same children born in the US whose citizenship the EO tries to erase. A 9-0 decision so holding would leave Congress free to try Trump’s move if it was as racist as he is.

This move against state bars is of a piece with the administration’s broader strategy against universities, the media and law firms — any organization capable of challenging the president’s power. And few things threaten it more than holding it to the the truth. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/13/o...

“Giving in to bullies has its own costs, not least because bullies are never satisfied with just a single capitulation. Especially when, as with the law firms, the bully — that is, the Trump administration — was obviously playing a weak legal hand from the start.”

Jenna Griswold played a key role in arguing for Trump’s 14th Am Sec 3 disqualification from the presidency after he was found guilty in a state court of insurrection agnst the Constitution. That she wasn’t the oral advocate is obviously irrelevant. Accusing her of misleading anyone is indefensible.
“In just over a year since taking office, Mr. Trump has authorized military action in seven nations, even after he repeatedly promised American voters that he would end, not start, wars.”

“The presumption created by the surrounding evidence is that this war could very well be about (1) subverting US democracy, (2) enriching the president, or both. These presumptions, while not proof, provide solid lines of inquiry as we learn more about the war.”

The Price of Mercy is a searing, compassionate, and utterly necessary book. Its insights are brilliant, its proposals pragmatic, and its potential impact on crime and punishment profound. It’s a must read.
“The Little Red Dots may be a totally new class of cosmic object. The latest theories suggest they could be something called quasi-stars or black hole stars, a concept originally predicted 20 years ago.”

“Trump is not a hypothetical. . . He is a uniquely authoritarian, vindictive, racist, corrupt and lawless demagogue — of which there isn’t remotely an analog on the other side of the aisle.”

“Before Mr.Trump’s second term, it had been exceedingly rare for grand jurors to rebuff requests by prosecutors seeking indictments. It is now happening with increased frequency, as MrTrump’s appointees push ahead with questionable cases in an effort to appease him.”

“After a Springfield pogrom, JD Vance will have his first namesake policy. “JD Genocide,” or perhaps “Genocide Vance” -- if all this happens, the sobriquets will write themselves.” This prophecy must be prevented from becoming a reality. If it isn’t, God help us.

In the U.S., “a mirror world has begun to form with the unleashing of multiple federal police forces that have already killed at least 3 citizens and many immigrants. They protect the bottom line of transnational corporations that surveil and jail us for profit.”

People who begin by shooting animals they find unpleasant or not worthy of living often turn out to be serial killers. Remember that when you think about Kristi Noem.
Activists are calling for a “nationwide day of no school, no work and no shopping” across the U.S. on Friday, Jan. 30, to protest President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown following the fatal shootings of two people by federal agents in Minneapolis.
“I just checked—it turns out that Art. II, Sec. 1 of the Constitution of the United States does *not* say ‘The executive Power shall be vested in a bunch of sociopaths who think they can do whatever the f*ck they want and make sh*t up as they go along.’” — George Conway
