The big question, of course: is Kalshi taking bets on the outcome of the Court case? Follow up: Can the 9th Circuit judges make bets there?

Later in the same interview, Mullin recalled that he directed Jason Crow, a congressman from Colorado who is a former Army Ranger, in how to best evacuate sheltering lawmakers from the balcony.

Then, Mullin recalled, he visited a triage center, where wounded police officers were getting treated for their injuries. “I haven’t seen a thing like that since stuff you see overseas,” Mullin told C-SPAN.

Since Mullin did not serve in any branch of the US armed forces, but inherited a plumbing company and took part in a handful of mixed martial arts fights, it is unclear what firsthand experience of disorder “overseas” he was flashing back to on January 6.

However, Mullin does seem to have visited Israel, in a guided tour for 40 lawmakers and their spouses in August 2015. There was no active warfare in Israel at that time, but another lawmaker’s wife, Kathleen Trott later told Politico that Mullin had behaved badly on the bus trip to see an Iron Dome installation and a kibbutz.

The more I learn about Markwayne Mullin the more he sounds like an Okie version of Mac from 'Always Sunny.'

Add: it was then stolen by meth heads who melted it down for a pittance of copper exchange and then the city of Las Vegas' mayor (a former mob lawyer) loved it so much, they recast and reinstalled it.

Also, remember that one time a solo passenger with no luggage was able to get into my car on a day there were no other cars around in 3.6 seconds? Yeah, so lets say we can always do it in 3.6 seconds.

"I can name that tune in one note"

(Single note plays with no response)

"Sorry, on paper, a tune can, under ideal circumstances, be recognized in one note. But under current conditions, I actually need 20 notes, thanks. But keep in mind I COULD name that tune in one note so let's stick with that."

Elon Musk’s Boring Company Is Tunneling Beneath Las Vegas With Little Oversight Given Musk’s role advising President-elect Donald Trump on ways to slash regulations and government oversight, Boring and the Vegas Loop project might be a harbinger for the country.

A lot of the docs are linked in our first ProPublica article. I'd also recommend the exemplary reporting from Fortune, too. www.propublica.org/article/elon...

The publicly funded marketing authority pays Boring about 55M to subsidize fares for travel around the Convention Center.

Also, bless that level of efficiency. I wonder if it presumes no one has luggage, disabilities, or, ya know, the dilatory instincts of being humans.

Everything is self-reported. Local transit officials doubt the veracity of whats being reported.

Any analysis of how many people they transport now must NOT include the closed loop 2-10 minute rides from one part of the convention center to the other. Totally skews the data.

Why 2025 was a not-so-fabulous year for Las Vegas tourism NPR's Daniel Estrin talks to Slate's Luke Winkie about his reporting on tourism to Las Vegas. Winkie calls it "America's most-flailing destination city."

TL:dr I went to Las Vegas to report on how dire the economic situation is there... so I talked to a guy on the Strip dressed like Pennywise and he confirmed it! www.npr.org/2026/01/03/n...

Dream by Fire

We were wed by a snowman. One must have
a mind of winter, I said. And a heart
of glass, you sang. We drank icicles, got
pretty crystallized. Walk in my footsteps,
I slurred. That’s not where the heat is, you purred.
A Cardinal broke the white. We were chill.
The candles burned on the windowsill.
We only had enough for one lifetime,
yet there they glow, eternal. We returned.
We aired grievances; your stockings, we hung.
Our feat of strength was to bite our tongues.
What holiday is this? you softly sighed.
The longest night, I replied. Something thawed:
a cup of kindness, yet… and then the frost.

An old poem. Whenever I hear "Winter Wonderland," I remember writing this poem, sitting in a Starbucks in Mesa, AZ, visiting my mother over the holidays, as I did for years when she retired there. Now she's dead these seven years, and I'm still dreaming by fires. Anyway, Happy Xmas. See you Friday.

Las Vegans aren't embarrassed by the hapless Raiders because unless you were a preexisting fan, we never bought in on the relocation especially since we had to pay so much for it. Also they give so little compared to their value (which only grew because of our position/ brand). Big wah wah.

Beautiful when done right! Whatever side you're on with this bill, it was sooooo close to being a perfectly executed maneuver. 4/5 stars.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball.

This field, this game, these gambling ads, these ticking timers, these corporate logos on the uniforms, these robots - it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again.
