don't focus on making it pretty or anatomically perfect or as detailed as possible. just focus on communicating your ideas! the most important parts of comics imo are pacing/timing, and getting the point across legibly, not beauty. beauty is a choice you can make, certainly, but it's just extras

caption 1: Age 8-ish. pictured: two dog kids sitting on a wall. one says to the other "My boy name would be Luke... your girl name... Rob... Robecca!", the other mulls it over. "Robecca..." I don't know if this is the kind of memory that sticks with you if it doesn't mean anything. caption 2: age: 12-ish. pictured: second dog from before, aged up "Yeah, I mean, if I was born again, I'd want to be a girl, haha". I'm aware, there's a theme, and I've been ignoring it, trying to overpower it. Caption 3: age 18-ish. pictured: dog again, ears now long and fluffy, rather than short and pointed. "I prefer my hair long..." they say, clutching their shoulder bag "and it's a messenger bag, not a purse"

caption: age 19. For one week it was crystal clear, during my second year of university, following a dream. pictured: the long-eared dog, flowery dress, dancing. It was a very lonely time, and one night I dreamt I was a woman, dancing. I still remember it, 12 years later, that feeling of freedom. "Naive", I decided after a week. pictured: the dog looks at 2 other dog women, meant to represent trans classmates and friends. My trans friends showed so much strength, and it was their strength I admired. Not the journey, the clothes, the femininity, the whole being a woman thing. No. I just admired their strength! (retrospective cringe)

age 20. I cut off my long hair "Uh yeah, looks great. age 22, I grew it all back "I look so pretty!" age 25: and I cut it again "I can work with this..." I tried different styles, I grew out my facial hair. But every now and then... Pictured: the long hair/long eared dog version returns, elated in the mirror. a common dream I have in which my long hair is intact, and I'm overjoyed. Vivid joyous dreams of my reflection returned to normal.

age 32. I'm more lost than ever, and my mind turns to my old regrets. Pictured: strained and sad, the fuzzy-faced, buzz cut present reality. watching drag race on television. I watch season 14 of drag race, in which half the cast is, or turns out to be, trans women. I think to myself: what if I could do that? it's what I always wanted, isn't it?. Pictured: the same dancing woman, long hair ears spinning around her. It's obvious.
