We've started calling Pumpkin "The World's Strongest Baby" not entirely affectionately, because he can have a fever and jaw pain and be sleepy on meds and STILL scratch us up resisting the cat carrier or pill time. He is feeling better thanks to quick intervention from the vet, at least, whew.

thank you, he's very goopy and sleepy ;c;
my cat Pumpkin had to have 12 teeth removed, my poor baby ;n;
I remember having already put the FMA ending theme "Indelible Sin" into my locked tomb playlist before running across that exact phrase in Harrow, haha
i bought the Shiny Toy Guns cover of Major Tom that I've loved since 2009 but had never found on cd, specifically to stick on this playlist
i appreciate the restraint the project hail mary team had in not actually stuffing the soundtrack with songs about space. i however have no such limitations when building ny extremely self indulgent fan playlist, hahaha
I googled rotating cutting mats and said "oooooh" out loud, that's so clever!! Oh I am definitely looking into this, thank you!! Dies would be nice, and I do have a couple hole punches, but man I'd need soooo many of them...
anyway the next step in my mon mothma piece includes a top-down view of the imperial senate for some goddang reason, and i'm scared of my own design. also i'm tossing around concepts for a project hail mary piece and caught myself thinking about orbits and planets and little dots and oh noooo
I keep an eye out in shops for metal circle stencils but haven't seen one yet. Though I've had xactos shave filings off metal rulers, so I'm not optimistic that's my solution either ahah
I've had a hard time finding the right tool to help me not have to cut them freehand. My circle stencil is soft plastic that xacto blades slice right into. Most adjustable cutting tools don't go smaller than an inch in diameter. I guess a cricut? i don't want a cricut...
me, sketching: wheee i love circular motifs, i'm gonna repeat 'em all over this very small illustration, wooo!!!
me, cutting those tiny circles out of paper: what the hell is my problem
Somehow it had never come up before, whoops! :'D
Having a check-in video call with my boss, I mentioned papercrafting and she was like what's that?? And I was like :D!!! I can show you!!!! because I'm at home today, so I could run to my studio, haul out the binder I keep finished work in, and hold up my stuff for her to exclaim over ;u;
Someone on the lunar mission quoted "Amaze Amaze Amaze!" and it nearly made me cry????
like i knew we were gonna see it later this weekend so i just tried not to think too hard about the implications of that bit of trivia :'D but man, what a coincidence, huh?
[project hail mary spoilers kind of] so i managed to be pretty unspoiled going in EXCEPT that a couple days back we watched Harold and Maude. (i looove h & m) and when I wandered onto the tumblr tag for it, the FIRST POST told me PHM was inspired by it. i was like haha i'm in danger ;u;
project hail mary good!!!! wonder if i could pull off a papercraft, I've got some stony papers......
oooh, after the sneak peek I'd wondered if it would be an armored bear! beautiful!!
Strips and rings of white paper laid over a piece of black paper. I'm using a safety pin to hold the rings up and apply glue to the backs.
The same star map of rings and strips with a translucent piece of teal plastic laid overtop, making them look greenish-blue. The top part of the black paper has been cut away to match the plastic, forming a smooth arc. The bottom part has been left kind of ragged, it will be behind things in the final composition.
A papercrafted illustration of Mon Mothma from Star Wars laid over the star map, the rings haloing her head. She's looking up, defiant and hopeful.
Papercrafting sunday rides again!! Mon Mothma and a star map! Very pleased with how this is turning out. The star map was made by overlaying a piece of teal plastic over the rings to give them that distinctive glow. The plastic was cut from a panel on a box, I had juuuuust enough to fit, whew!
we watched it because it's nostalgic in a very specific way for me: it was one of the old VHS tapes my brother and I would unearth from our parents' collection to watch when we were home alone on school breaks or bored on weekend mornings. felt right to watch on a sick day.
we watched Tron (1982) yesterday and the fascinating thing was the DVD is a special edition from 2002 with meticulously-crafted themed menus and special features so it was a period piece twice over
good luck good luuuuuuuck!!!!!
very annoying that being home sick doesn't mean you can do whatever fun thing you like. my papercraft wip is sitting RIGHT THERE but i just coughsneezed and it was The Worst. the spirit is willing but the flesh is going back to bed
you will get through this! ;3;/
aaa feel better soon ):
A photo of a desk with a cutting mat and a sketch and an in-progress cut paper illustration of Mon Mothma from Star Wars laid out in dishes.
Had a papercrafting sunday for the first time in forever! Just the first part of a much larger piece cut out for now, this took about four hours. Might try to glue it later this evening, we'll see how I'm feeling.
knock'em dead, QU!!!!
sighhh yeah that sounds par for the course... they really can afford not to care at all, huh?
"we have no way to forward a call"????? what are they talking to you with, tin cans?! glad you could get your info outta there at least
ticketmaster keeps finding new and interesting ways to be Just The Absolute Worst, jeez
