We’ve made our infrastructure so hostile to humans that allowing children to play or walk or bike outside unsupervised is seen as “irresponsible”, even if they’re following all the rules when a driver who isn’t hurts them!

It also seems odd to argue that allowing an 11 year old to ride on busy streets is irresponsible but allowing a 4 year old to play on the sidewalk in front of a restaurant on a busy street while their parents eat inside is not. But perhaps the friends’ parents were supervising.

The dig at the parents is baffling, “No reasonable parent would have allowed an 11-year old to ride an e-bike on crowded city streets.”

The kids on the e-bike were following all the laws!

I think a lot about why there’s so much focus on the top bar instead of the bottom bar. Perhaps because most people identify as drivers and don’t want to be inconvenienced by additional regulations, while cyclists are still the “other”?

S.F. speed cameras are generating mountains of tickets and fines. Here are the totals so far August was the first month that San Francisco’s automated speed cameras generated citations with a fine. One camera accounted for a quarter of all the tickets, according to data.

Analysis finds that “comparing a single day before the speed camera implementation with one day after, average speeds came down at every single one of those 15 corridors last month. All devices behind a router have the same public IP address. Duplicate IPs mean multiple people in the same house / coffee shop / library / office took the survey.

This is only suspicious if there was a huge # from 1 address, or if you think a human living / eating / working with others is odd.
