Picture of a smiling person holding up a copy of a book.
First copies of my book are here!! As a new faculty member, I realized that in addition to my research job, I also had a leadership job…and I wasn’t prepared for that.
This book is the guide I wish I’d had then, with the goal of helping others now.

Many are asking how they can help. I am still stunned by the power of this storm and know that recovery will be a long process. TY to the WashU community for letting us know how we can come together to support the community of those in need. stlouis.washu.edu/st-louis-sto...
Interesting article by @vmontori.bsky.social and others.
Business schools and accelerators especially teach to focus on niche markets and groups.
This has broad consequences and it doesn't take into account the person who will use it!

FYI: The Spencer Foundation, Kapor Foundation, The William T. Grant Foundation, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation have collaborated to offer $25K rapid response grants.
"This rapid response bridge funding opportunity is for scholars and teams whose grants have recently been cancelled by NSF."
Over 50% of Asian American women who have lung cancer have never smoked. For Chinese and Indian American women who have lung cancer, that number shoots to 80% to 90%.
excellent summary of best practices to address health literacy. I just saved this article for my class, as this Monday's topic is about HL interventions. TY to Dr. Paasche-Orlow and Dr. Wolf for the timely summary. I would add that orgs can work on the HL environment. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
Our latest study in BMJ Open examined how women react to learning about overdiagnosis in breast cancer screening. We found that preexisting beliefs about cancer made it hard for some women to comprehend and accept overdiagnosis bmjopen.bmj.com/content/15/3/e087997

#MedSky… we all need to check on trainees who are here on visas and not expect they function normally under such impossible conditions ❤️🩹
This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH
This doctor who worked at Brown was deported despite judge’s orders and a valid H1B visa.
Even as a US citizen, I’m wondering whether it’s safe to leave the country unless I never want to come back.

It's always been striking how the approaches in #MedEd & #ImpSci can help improve both in #PCCM - Dr. Pat Lyons @ohsunews.bsky.social & I discuss this in our @accpchest.bsky.social piece on Bringing #MedEd frm Bench to Bedside: Applying #ImpSci to #PCCM www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

We need to organize--let’s help each other.
NIH is cancelling grants, but it's not clear exactly what they're cancelling and why. Without this information, we can't respond.
I've started a Google Sheet to track grant cancellations.
Please add any canceled grants you know of and spread the word!

I spend a lot of time thinking about #Participatory approaches to #ImpSci (and life!). Colleagues and I pulled together quotes & ideas that offer alternative entry points for us. What has prompted "aha" moments for others in this space? Open access at doi.org/10.1146/annu...
