Horror365Challenge 112/365: Night of the Demons 2 (1994)

"I think we'll skip the cake....Oh, don't be silly; It's devil's food!"
"Come on, Kirt! I paid for half of those!"
Sister Gloria with a yard stick going "engarde" absolutely killed me. The good sister and Angela are two of the best parts of all this; a real "duel" between the forces of good and evil. The setup and story for this movie are much more interesting and involved in this one: bad kids from the catholic orphanage get into trouble and get kicked out of the Halloween dance, so they decide to throw their own party...in Hull House. Some of the shots of this movie are wild, as only the 90s can deliver. Plus, we get Marsha, Marsha, Marsha! This movie is a little more horny than the first one, but only just a little. The SFX are just as good, if not better. You will be absolutely rooting for Angela to fuck up the cast of this one, especially Shirley. More demons, more gore, more special effects bonanza! What's not to like!

Son of the Devil tries to make Papa Satan proud, in two movies. As played by Julian Sands. A whole lot of fun and very punny. You get a lot of witchcraft lore and SFX for some A- and B+ plots.

I’m 103,210 words, 424 pages in and I’ve still got seven chapters to put in. I’d rather the story be over the limit and have those chapters, as opposed to cut them and only deliver part of the story.

So it might be 600-700 pages by the end. So is A Game of Thrones. Who cares? Readers won’t!

Fire it up! It’s worth it to put out a story you’re proud of and actually inspired to produce, rather than worry about how many words it has. I’m in the same boat as you and I’m not gonna be worried about falling in-line behind some convention or anyone else either. Write your story, however long!

I took it easy this week, because I’ve been feeling under the weather a little bit recently. I’ll be back to my two-a-day soon enough. For now, just chilling.

Horror365Challenge 108/365: TftC: Demon Knight
"Fuck this cowboy shit! You fucking hodunk, podunk, well them there motherfuckers!"
I'm rewatching this in prep for Tales from the Crypt hitting streaming on May 1st, for the first time on Shudder. Killer soundtrack, practical effects that still beat some of the shit today, Billy Zane chewing every piece of the scenery (this right here is why a lot of us love BZ). This movie is one hell of a wild ride from start to finish. Some of the scenes are just wacky, even gonzo-esk at times; as only the 90s can provide with style. The story isn't a half-bad set up about good and evil either. Very large scale stakes for such a small scale backdrop. Just sometimes, the wacky jokes don't do the epic nature of the tale they're telling much justice. Still very worth the watch, and highly entertaining!!!
Roach had it coming! I'm just sayin.

What It's Like To Write

Once, I tripped into the dark
Of a world I dreamt up, and called it Art.
A place where only I could play,
A wonder in getting back, if I could find my way.
A mess of words in a tangled web I've weaved,
Held aloft like hair floating in a breeze, Unable to be untangled without a tease, But do I want to? I kinda like it seized.

These words just wouldn't leave me alone, while I was trying to write. So I put them down, so they could go play and fight.

Horror365Challenge 102/365: The Haunting (1963)
Pareidolia: "the human tendency to perceive familiar patterns, most commonly faces, in random or ambiguous visual stimuli, such as clouds, rock formations, or everyday objects."

Holy smokes, a young Russ Tamblyn (Dr. Jacoby from Twin Peaks)!

This haunted house story is probably responsible for inspiring Hell House, The Shining, House of Leaves, and a few others. It plays very well with the ideas of pareidolia, superstition, paranormal activity, and psychosis, forcing the audience to decide what they think really happened. Did Eleanore go crazy and lose her mind, or was the house really haunted and some spirit really drove her into that tree? Each of the other final four survivors offers the viewer their own interpretation of the events, while the shadow in the tower of the final shot seems to offer its own idea. I know some folk’s knee-jerk reaction is to call this boring or a nothing-burger, but they would be forgetting their history of when this movie came out and what movies were capable of then. If you want the more active, more overt, paranormal ghost story, watch the 1999 The Haunting instead. I still gotta say this is a great movie, that really climbs in your head with you and messes around with what you're thinking the whole time.
