I’m actually talking about 2025 on and the party in the Trump 2.0 era. I think Biden was actually a very successful president for the most part, & indeed under challenging circumstances.

The base is more than Black women. And as a newly-minted senior myself, I’m not out to demean my peers. But I think my point is valid. I mean, read this story about the Plantner-Mills race itself. Dem voters are mad at the party, and it’s affecting the primary.

I get that too, and am very pragmatic about running (and voting for) electable candidates. But that anger IMO accounts for part of why Maine D’s and independents may be favorably inclined towards Plantner.
I get & agree with all of this, but I think you also have to factor in just how angry the base is with Schumer/Jeffries and the geriatric-centrist Dem establishment, which Mills also represents. That’s a big reason for why overall Democratic approval has been so low—very unhappy base voters.
The end times are truly at hand.
The new volume is beautifully done. I bought an extra copy as a present for a friend who grew up in Albany and is a passionate fan of the trilogy. He knew the exact location of the cover photo!
Hank Shteamer on Flea's new jazz album. Proud of the involvement of two Indiana University jazz alums (Josh Johnson and Anna Butterss) in this project. Also check out Flea's role as a trumpeter and addict in the vastly underrated 2014 Joe Albany biopic LOW DOWN.
Talk about propaganda! Hypocrisy, thy name is WaPo. Or WarPro.
Fascinating article about Claire Douglas, who was married to J.D. Salinger at the height of his literary fame and who served as the model for his character Franny Glass. After their divorce in 1967, she eventually became a highly-respected Jungian analyst and scholar.
This jumped out at me as well. I suppose Sifton could claim the 2015 deal contained rather than ended Iran's nuclear program, but to leave out mention of it and Trump's destruction of it is journalistically irresponsible.
There’s a big trove of early-1960s live recordings of the John Coltrane quartet on the way. The Frank Tiberi tapes have long been a grail quest for Trane fans.
Hopefully not running for president!
Bingo! The defense offered here just validates Youngman’s point further.
Um, the point of Youngman’s repost of your tweet remains the same. You evidently approve of highlighting AOC’s “word salad” quote while the NYT continues to sanewash our demented president, who spouts far worse “word salads” all the time. Highlighting that quote proves Youngman’s point in general.
Jazz writer @markstryker.bsk.social joins me today to discuss “Best of the Best: Jazz From Detroit,” the documentary film adaptation of his book about Detroit jazz. We’ll be playing lots of Detroit jazz as well by Kenny Burrell, Barry Harris, Ron Carter, Geri Allen & more. On wfiu.org from 3-5 pm.
They’re concentration camps. Yes, we are building concentration camps in America.
Me neither.
Gosh, what a surprise! Whatever could they have been chatting about? 🤔
This was and is real presidential leadership—not the current narcissistic, hate-driven clown-car show that’s destroying our constitutional republic.
I sure do miss this beautiful First Couple. They continue to represent the best of what this country is and what it could be.
Beautifully said.
My favorite First Couple ever. Somebody said “peak America”… yes. Camelot II, and it was better and longer than the original.
Love this guy so much. A ray of hope in the hellscape of DT 2.0
This is a BFD: the Tiberi tapes are coming! Saxophonist Frank Tiberi frequently taped John Coltrane's performances in the early 1960s, rumored to amount to 115 hours. For Coltrane fans this stash is akin to Dean Benedetti's trove of Charlie Parker recordings, & some of it is finally coming out now.
Always interested to read Ethan's thoughts about the Marsalis effect, but this also includes an excellent writeup about "Jazz: The Experimenters," a 1965 TV program featuring Charles Mingus & Cecil Taylor, w/commentary from Ralph Ellison and Martin Williams.
Pathetic. Media by oligarchs for oligarchs.
This was my first Clifford Brown album, in a time long ago and far away. I still think it’s one of the most gorgeous trumpet records ever made.
On what legal grounds are these observers being arrested?!
