"Tobacco ruled the world until it didn't" is such a good reminder and rallying cry

i simply find it a little hard to believe that shortly after every website implemented ai code and fired a bunch of engineers they all started breaking constantly every single day but its not related to the ai code or the skeleton crew

we have a TREMENDOUS amount of power when we just… opt out.

there are a lot of corporations that don’t deserve our money or clicks or participation. it’s not that hard just… not giving it to them.

people "have money", in that they have income. but the number of people seriously burdened by their rent is the highest it's ever been. the cost of living is so much worse than it was a decade or two ago. I know multiple people making the most money they've ever made who are barely hanging on.

Contrary to public perception a huge % of pregnant teenagers in the 1990s were impregnated by adult men. The younger they were, the larger the average age gap between mother and father was. Fixing teen pregnancy was in part a clampdown on statutory rape. That's what conservatives want to reverse.

Spent the 1st 15-30 minutes of both classes today checking in & getting a sense of how not-okay my students are, reminding them that I'm there if they need to talk, & doing my best to channel some Baldwin, Butler, & Le Guin (outlining avenues of action which might lead to beneficial change & hope)

Why does this happen? Two candidate mechanisms:

1) AI resets your reference point for how long things "should" take. Unaided work suddenly feels harder than it actually is, -- a kind of hedonic adaptation.

2) AI removes the productive struggle through which you learn what you're capable of.

We elected an administration on the messaging that all of society’s ills were a result of DEI & immigration. So we’re left with no choice when we look at all this immediate & staggering abject failure, death & unnecessary suffering around you but to understand that it is a direct result of whiteness

I know it's late, but I need you all to realize that as soon as we started paying attention to these races, Moms for Liberty & their ilk, started losing. They exploited a window of apathy & did a lot of damage, but they just cannot win when actually opposed. No unopposed elections anywhere.

Yeah this is literally the purpose of these products. I don't mean this in a "kids these days" kind of way. EdTech companies, and the feckless education bosses who team up with them, want education to be a credential-generating machine in which learners act like customers and teachers act like cops

‘Succulent Chinese meal’ speech added to Australia’s National Film and Sound Archive Jack Karlson’s rallying cry of ‘democracy manifest’ added to national collection of sound recordings that hold historical, cultural and aesthetic significance * Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast Thirty-five years ago, when Jack Karlson was hauled into a police car outside a Chinese restaurant in Queensland, he couldn’t have known his bombastic speech would be watched by millions around the world, become a meme and now, be preserved for ever in Australia’s National Film and Sound Archive. Karlson’s declaration – “Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest! … What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?” – is one of nine pieces of audio that have been added to the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia collection this year, along with a pedestrian crossing signal and Missy Higgins’ 2004 hit Scar. Not a serious question.

The reason to boycott the Harry Potter series is not just because of J.K. Rowling’s heinous views. Any money she makes from the show will be used to terrorize trans people. She has made this abundantly clear. This is not a theoretical.

Here's a lesson in right-wing propaganda (which is what Western Journal is) when it comes to movies:

• if a movie is unsuccessful, they will try to find a way to make it seem like it's "woke."

• if a movie is successful they will try to find a way to make it seem like it's "anti-woke."

No question. If the ultimate goal is actual democracy for the first time in American history then the activation of the people is a critical lever. The activation of people is a work of spirit and we forever wanna solve spiritual problems with tactical solutions and judge the need for spirit.

A woman riding her bike on a dirt road. She is wearing a helmet. There is a herd of horses following behind her. The text reads: The horses are with you. You are free. Always wear a helmet when riding your bike.

Thread. I'm begging people to realize how much we've already given in just the past 25 years. I'm old enough to remember when surveillance wasn't ubiquitous and before ICE or the TSA existed. There was even a time when the average cop wasn't kitted out for full on urban warfare.
