absolutely gutting news coming out of UQP. Imagine betraying Aboriginal poets and scholars and novelists on Aboriginal lands for an orchestrated pro-Israel grievance campaign.

I'm currently in pre-publishing stage for my novel with UQP. Lobbyists are pressuring UQP & UQ to cancel my contract. Historical-based fiction re Stolen Generations & other forms of genocide that occurred on this continent. And Blak joy, survival. These lobbyists can't bury truth, can't silence us
What?!
The controversial project would see waste burned to create energy in Fiji to reduce the country's reliance on fossil fuels, but locals and environmentalists are not happy.
I feel like there's a bit more activity on the bad site, for anti poverty politics auspol.
But I simply do not want to use a platform with random surprise Nazis and CSAM
I should add that the last time I left my house was 30th January, 2026 and that is the one and only time I’ve been out this year.
Last time I left my home to pick up scripts + get a haircut, I was abused by two charming people who claimed I was bludging on the NDIS (I’m a manual wheelchair user + vision impaired). I was on my own (I’m non NDIS + receive no support whatsoever), struggling but did not ask anyone for assistance.
I once knew a Centrelink compliance officer who told me he did just that.
Go for easy vulnerable targets over trivialities, not lawyered up known fraud actors.
So why not regulate providers rather than PWD, seriously?
Is it because it's easier to discipline/cut off vulnerable people who need help with basic daily functions, that dodgy businesses who will take fraud allegations to court?
I don't think the ALP really cares that much about corruption, grift and fraud, or they would have made the NACC better, or spent less on consultants.
But if that was the real concern, fraud by providers will continue until it's regulated, however many people are the NDIS.
Ok Redbridge did research for the ALP that found people would accept cutting supports off from people with disabilities if it was framed as fixing fraud by those PWD
But any fraud is by providers, exploiting PWD
True. People used to hunt rabbits and use creek water, would be risky with pollution now
I have been reporting on the rent tech space for a bit and it's good to see this decision - and also the commissioner specifically pointing out the power imbalance between renters and real estate agents in a housing crisis. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
I've also been discouraged from seeing myself as poor.
Lots of people think poverty is rare or doesn't exist in Australia.
So they encourage you to think you are just personally lying, or a stuff up, no matter how much effort you make.
I have experienced all the types of poverty in this thread, some more than others.
I've often been discouraged from seeing myself as someone who deserves class solidarity, rather than just owing it. Often to wealthier people
I'm *very* glad my mother was pro-education.
The person who crowed so much about his mother and her circumstances to win an election, has done bugger all for people currently in need.
When I was growing up in Australia there was a strong cultural myth of the Fair Go, and that anyone with a job and enough hours could afford a home.
Which is obviously not the case anymore.
I could always see his point, and was grateful we had a home with running water.
But this understanding didn't prepare me for the poverty of long hours work, holding multiple, minimum wage, casualties jobs
Thinking on this, my Dad grew up in rural poverty with all the main 4 types of poverty.
He taught me if you have a home with running water you aren't rock bottom poor.
Those are the main ones, there are also things like;
-subjective poverty, psychologically being aware your income is too low for needs
- participation poverty, having barriers to fully participate in your society e.g. work, use public facilities
-urban/rural poverty. When each landscape has its own features of poverty e.g. housing overcrowding in cities, lack of educational facilities in rural.
- generational poverty. When multiple generations of a family or demographic are trapped in poverty, because they lack means to escape e.g. infrastructure, education, equal employment
-situational poverty. poverty stemmed from a new or crisis situation e.g. a health problem, a natural disaster.
-relative poverty. Very low income or lower income than most of your society. Say income 50% or less than mean incomes.
So I looked up the toes of poverty, and found various sources list 4 to 10 types of poverty.
Common ones listed are;
- Absolute poverty. Can't meet basic needs like food, water, shelter
Hello, I was raised in a fundamentalist Christian cult, I am not spiritual or religious. I am not intolerant of anyone’s beliefs whatsoever and if anyone had a reason to be intolerant of religion it’d be me.
My kingdom for a secure, reasonably well paid, part time WFH job.
- me and every other disabled carer
It was shocking that Labor ever thought cutting seniors ability to shower was Ok.
And telling that they're planning to fund the change but cuts to the NDIS
After writing this, woke up thinking of the Top Blokes Quarterly Essay by Lech Blaine, where he discusses people who swing right to vote for Morrison.
Tragic situation
