A beneficiary of a warming climate. A few of the many Speckled Wood #butterflies inhabiting #AshlawnCuttingLNR @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @warwickshirewt.bsky.social
#Urban Holly Blue at #AshlawnCuttingLNR
Picture of street filled with people when cars are prohibited, with a prominent sign saying “road closed.” Via Urban Truth Collecrive (Also, it’s a street, not a road)
How come they keep spelling “open” wrong?
Does that street look closed to you? Only if you’re a car… and presumably that’s the real problem. #UrbanTruth
That's it! Pynchon is a genius. And an engineer...

Green Hairstreak
We've still got them! After an absence of over 30 years Green Hairstreak was spotted in #AshlwnCuttingLNR 4 years ago and I've found one or two every year since. Today there were 2 on the scrubby edge of this scallop near Ashlawn rd. Bridge @savebutterflies.bsky.social #Conservation #localvolunteers
Garden pond revisited #MallardMonday
In Gravity's Rainbow by T. Pynchon there is a tale of Byron the everlasting bulb who was hunted by the CIA (Committee for incandescent Anomalies). Byron had a low resistance so didn't burn out"! A deal done by Edison Co. with manufacturers to ensure electrical equipment used more power at 240V AC
An engineer i know worked at a luxury car maker beloved by James Bond ensuring that some components have a limited life span.
65 years of natural colonisation and natural woodland expansion at Monks Wood. Entirely self-sown by Jays, thrushes & wind; zero management: no planting, thinning or fencing. Oak-Ash canopy and Hawthorn-Blackthorn understorey dominate. Roe deer, Muntjac, Grey Squirrels haven't inhibited it.

Plants re hard and those are hard plants to photograph. You did a good job I reckon.

I discovered it as a site for Wall Brown butterfly that's now extinct in Warwickshire. Easier than climbing Bardon Hill.
The National Forest is a great initiative too,we have the Heart of England Forest in Warks . Both seem to be creating woodlands with great rides and open areas. There's a lot of good stuff going on. More power to your elbow too!!
Wood Sage and Climbing Corydalis among the volcanic rocks too all makes a refreshing change from #Warwickshire
Spent a nice Sunday morning at Warren Hills in #Leicestershire . Lots of Bilberry and green hairstreak #butterflies.

Stanford Reservoir - showy reeling Grasshopper Warbler, first Cuckoo of the year, 3 Common Tern, 2 Yellow Wagtail. #PWC2026
115 species, 148 pts.
What a treat! Great video of the Grasshopper Warbler
A late start on the hill of dreams, we got Grizzled and Dingy on 7th April last year.
2/2 Two other Brassicaceae found along the path in the cutting are the ubiquitous Hairy Bittercress and Ladies Smock. All good news for our White butterflies.

#CabbageChallenge
It didn't take long to get one for the #CabbageChallenge at #AshlawnCuttingLNR. Garlic Mustard grows in profusion at the Pytchley Rd. bridge .entrance .....1/2
I did see a Cuckoo Bee today 🤣
Reports and pics of one at Brandon Marsh today!! I'm all ears ....
Got the sexes of the blues wrong way round 🙃
1st butterfly of the day today was this unmissable male Orange Tip in the garden. And breakfast entertainment as pair of Mallard dropped in. #Ducks #butterfly #VitaminN
