what do researchers mean when they say they measure 'consciousness'? do they mean 1) subjective experiences, or 2) just general cognitive capacities?
to those who say 1, perhaps they think Alzheimer patients are zombies, or they are actually confusing 1 with 2

went to the dentist to have old filling replaced with modern filling and my face is very numb...only problem is I keep feeling an itch on my lip/chin and when I scratch/rub it I feel nothing. The net result is a persistent itch I can't scratch...feels like itch is there but my chin is not. Not cool!
Nerds: This is basically an amazing open ended RPG set in important scenes in philosophical history.
Pedagogy nerds: This is like Reacting (to the Past) simulations but single player. And philosophy.
It’s not generic LLM generated but based on lots of research into academic and popular sources.

it's cool how you can raise a thinking, feeling being under torturous conditions, then kill it, dismember it, and cook it, and because this is all normal, when you post pictures of the results on here the good people of this website will be like "yes that is perfectly morally fine"

To combat the heresy spread at the annual associationist meeting, the Association Association (philevents.org/event/show/1...), I propose a yearly meeting of Fodorians and other nativist thinkers. Naturally, we shall be called the Language of Thought League of Thinkers (the "LoT LoT").

Cortical circuits are often thought to be specialized, but the same large-scale activity patterns can arise from different circuit architectures. In other words, different instruments can play the same tune, and the same instrument can sometimes play different tunes.

I think Fodor & Pylyshyn's 1988 paper is possibly the most mischaracterized paper in the history of cognitive science. It's often cited as arguing that neural networks cannot achieve systematicity, compositionality, and productivity. But that's not what they actually argue...
