Has anyone else noticed that the more Trump is visibly rotting, the more he surrounds himself with what appear to be necromancers?

There’s no rule against just saying “Uno!” every time you play a card. Even in other card games. Better safe than sorry
Good behavior or no, I tend to doubt Sufjan Stevens is that similar to John Wayne Gacy Jr
This is the closest to a real gorilla channel story we’ve had yet I think?
well i clicked this thinking there's no way I'll cry at an actor's acceptance award and then the Indiana Jones music kicked in and i thought about my dad and started crying. Harrison's speech kept me crying. What a great guy. What a career.
Dylan’s “Masters of War” captures a smouldering blackness at the heart of American society that burns your soul to look at, then and now, and we’re no closer to resolving that brokenness than we were then
I don’t even need “not insane,” I just need “unlikely to be the body snatching alien from Men In Black”
Although I might be overstating the problem. The amount of goodwill Mamdani has been able to generate just by being Relatively Normal might suggest the field has just been consistently soft, not that the problem is that hard
I’ve thought a version of this since like 2019, namely that A White Man Running For President is one of the more hideous things you can be. Closely related, if you are non-white or non-male running for president and aren’t EXTREMELY on point there’s a high chance leftists will deem you Even Worse

Surreal that he isn’t kidding, of course, but it’s kind of everybody else’s fault for continuing to pay attention to the sex trafficking pizza parlor guy
“You do not, under any circumstances, ‘gotta hand it to them,’” etc., but this is genuinely an extremely funny tweet. If I’d thought of it I’d be pretty proud
“I thought Silent Hill was a band”
Ambient dialogue I heard the other day, just thought I’d share
Garfield? GARFIELD?!
My masculinity has been threatened by Bad Bunny for years, I just had no idea there were so many out there like me
Just got a rebellious thrill from blocking WhatsApp on WhatsApp that I haven’t had since blocking Tom
Those poor, long-suffering New England football fans. When will they get their day in the sun?
Whichever *tech CEO
Go back in time and ask Elon Musk about the morality of assassinating whichever is most aggressively pursuing AI development with no safety controls, I think his answer would be unequivocal
It’s a niche gimmick but I’m a huge fan of vizier-posting

I understand the concept here but imo “do better” is a really funny thing to say to a stranger on the internet. Wildly patronizing along the same lines as “try to keep up,” if you’re not joking you must take yourself so unbelievably seriously
But it’s easy when trying to come up with that sort of thing to imagine overly restrictive ethics that would mean nobody has fun on the Internet anymore, they just read white papers or whatever. Which, idk, might be nice but would require a fundamental change to human nature to work
Maybe what’s actually needed is development of more universalizable ethics around how online content spreads. Less engagement with ragebait influencers, more content from recognized experts with limited domains (think Derek Lowe)
And to be honest I’ve always been a little skeptical of that sort of overly-neat historical analogy. But I do think some kind of societal reorientation around this new mode of information-processing still needs to take place
I’ve heard the argument that in the same way the printing press destabilized feudalism and inevitably drove toward a nation-state-based world order, the Internet destabilizes nation-states and drives inevitably toward ______ (we don’t know yet)
this is genuinely incredible
Several days later it’s unclear to me: do we consider ourselves “at war”? Are the doors to the temple of Janus open or closed?
Preferably, though: bite the bullet and just stop maintaining a duplicity between what you’re thinking and what you’re saying publicly. If it’s not possible to do that and still have electoral success maybe this democracy thing is doomed anyway
