I’ve been the same having taking up wargaming since retirement. My wife didn’t understand it. She would ask why did I need as many periods and armies? However at the beginning of the year my butterfly landed on a little leafy plant called Midgard. It’s rested there ever since.

All dry and cleaned and ready for the next adventure. My trusty Hilleberg Akto. Bomb proof. The world’s best tent. Ten years old now and still looks as good as new🏕️

We are blessed that we can still have such goals. 💪
You would have loved the tops Simon. The snowfield started at the 500 metre level. I did the route solo a exactly a year ago in balmy, warm spring sunshine in 4.5 days. This time it was Baltic. The Cambam bothy felt like the Hilton. The cold spurred us on to getting the job done.
Just finished a tough 45 mile 3.5 day trek along the Affric Kintail Way from Drumnadrochit on the shores of Loch Ness to Morvich in Kintail with my buddy Peter Harris. I should know better that to put my 68 year old bones through this. Freezing cold conditions all the way but mostly stayed dry.
Battle of the Three Oaks - a Midgard Hold the High Ground scenario played with my son Rory who commanded the Saxons. On turn 2 I freakishly lost my Army Commander to missile fire. From then on my Danes couldn’t make any headway and it was all done and dusted before his reinforcements even appeared.
Yes that would work as well. I already have that. 👍
Just checked out Midlam Miniatures. Some really useful historical models in their range as well. 👍
Just wondering what you use to attach the figures to the bottle tops. I’ve never found anything that works.
I like that. 👍
Three groups of Saxon archers ready for Midgard. I’ve pondered long over this but group basing as inspired by Mathew Slade and Michael Johnson is the way forward for me. Just looks so much better.
I’ll do that.
Yes Michael. Trying to fully learn the game in order to put in an improved show at this year’s Moot in Derby. Last year I turned up clueless. This time I hope to go one better.
The red banner of Wessex with its golden dragon rises in East Cheshire. Three heroes completed and ready to do battle with the heathen horde over Easter. Foundry Miniatures. Flags courtesy of Mogsymakes
Very active wargaming community in New Buckenham.
A beautiful morning here in Cheshire. A short walk to the butchers reveals the following little creatures all going about their business of building, mating and killing. Just the blue tit missing from the bottom of the screen shot.
South West Coast Path - Bolt Head path. This certainly had the blood pumping. A sensational stretch with precipitous, vertiginous drops. A welcome relief to find a short length of steel fence to provide a little security over the most exposed section.
Getting the miles down on the South West Coast Path. Warming up for my Scotland trek in April.
You deserve the accolades James. 👍
South West Coast Path - Bigbury Bay. Coming soon to a plate near you…
Ooof! I had one once. £10 to put it on. £2K+ to get it off. Good luck!
The Nodge gave them a shoeing. Yellows …. OTBC!
I’m looking for recommendations for a decent drill to insert holes in the hands of metal figures for carrying spears. The Conquest Miniatures Vikings require this. Thank you.
Preparing & positioning these Saxon leadership & Hero vignettes for Midgard. Should be able to use several of James’ excellent flags for them that printed out extremely well. All Foundry figures.

Movement tray production line for my Midgard Saxons.
Figures mounted onto 2p coins. The “tray” has a magnetic sheet stuck down on the surface.
The Forlorn Hope make a breach into the walls of the The Curry House. All survived with minor injuries. ..
Superb. Colonel Wheat would be proud.👍
Arrived in Bristol for Winter Wonderlard VI tomorrow at BIG. Running my ACW “Lincoln’s life or a Tiger’s death” focused on the small battle within a big battle for Matthew’s Hill at the 1st Bull run. I’ve knocked out 34 table ready figures for it since Sunday. A record for my state pension eyes…
I’m keen to find out more from you this weekend on this in preparation for “The Devil’s Wind”. At the moment I’ve naff all, and fancying some Highlanders as a nod to my family.
