This will seem like hater behavior, but if you're going to run an anti-establishment campaign that you know will face opposition from well-established, well-funded lobbying groups, you have to run an incredibly tight ship that's about more than appealing to posters.

That is how Mamdani won.

Fondly remembering when Andrew Cuomo's hail Mary attempt to not lose the mayoral race was accidentally saying the N-word.

If we survive this moment—and I am still quite confident we will—what must emerge on the other side is a professional class of bloodthirsty warriors, effectively left-wing nationalists who serve society as a philosophical concept and with cold, calculant precision seek the destruction of an enemy.

Yeah I’m not going to read too far into this when these doofuses only ever know how to double down. This is just a sign they’re losing and they know it.

If all you know is astroturf, real grass feels conspicuously alien.

One of the main drivers of this is that between Koch, Wilkes, Saudi, and Qatari money, these guys genuinely can't imagine how any of this stuff gets done without throwing mountains of cash at it.

What it gets you is think tanks and Tucker Carlson's dumbass podcast.

It doesn't get you a movement.

A lot of things are about to happen at once and there's not much guessing that can be done about any of them from right here and now. My advice is, unless you're on the ground in the middle of it, cool your heels and wait until it's remotely obvious where the ground is moving.

this is wild because this is one of the largest sustained right-wing echo chambers that wasn't banned by Reddit itself. this is a place where con mods zero-tolerance ban anybody who "asks questions" or points out any inconsistencies with gop talking points.

But the biggest indication is the way the ICE thugs react after the shots. They don't try to arrest him or secure the gun, they either back away or run away. They immediately knew it was a crime and tried to distance themselves.

Someone with power should do something about this.

You thought Dems were pissed after Renée was murdered? Well now they're going to vote to fund ICE *TWICE* as much!

I look forward to the Democrats continuing to fail to stand up to this moment and utterly failing to do a single thing, getting wins in November with which they'll do nothing, only to shovel Gavin Newson (or Kamala again) onto us as their Chosen Candidate in 2028, then losing again.

One thing I will say, as a non-reactionary believer in gun rights, the idea you can be executed just for carrying a gun (with a permit no less) is the exact thing gun rights people have been railing on for years.

There is a fomenting lurch largely missed by the kinds of people on here.

what this should make clear to everyone in this country is that it does not matter who you are, there's no "it could never happen to me"

you can be a white woman who drives around with stuffed animals in her car, and they will still kill you in cold blood and call you a domestic terrorist

As ever, my perspective on the outcome of the next few years remains positive. I have nothing but bad feelings about the shorter term.

It is perhaps an overly precise reason, but I do think the biggest reason AI tools make people stupid is the specific ability to have a single, narrow idea explained to you with no broader context is the exact opposite of what looking something up and learning about it does for you.

Also it's boring, which is the worst part. I come here to check up on one or two people and that's about it.

I think a solid 33.33% of the reason I don't use this site much is because it's mostly just people aggressively trying to make it "their" site, 33.33% because people here basically bully anybody that doesn't add alt text to their images, and 33.33% because nothing actually seems to happen here.

You're going to see a lot of "he's a violent antifascist leftist" and "he's a groyper" but the core of Tyler Robinson's motivation is almost certainly that he's an online-poisoned idiot gamer.

Thinking about this guy I once knew who was a self described centrist who hated Clinton, voted Trump, had conservative leaning views, and consumed Fox News... but said he would have voted for Bernie

Chuck Schumer lowers head, looks up over glasses perched precariously at the end of his nose as he shudders imperceptibly with pleasure: "Did someone say 'bipartisan'?"
