“Is this the Democrats’ Tea Party moment?” No, the Tea Party was an astroturf campaign bankrolled by the Koch brothers, you’re thinking of something else I guess

After building the best public education system in the world brought us the Counterculture and the Anti-War Movement, conservatives in the US began a 50+ year assault to destroy public education.

What Would You Give Up to Make American Health Care Better? It’s a question everyone—from executives to practitioners to consumers—needs to ask. But few seem willing to think about it.

It is not that hard to think of many things that the health care providers, the pharma sector, and the insurance companies need to give up to improve the system. What about the rest of us?

I admittedly haven't kept on my Minions-verse lore, but I distinctly recall they were shown as having been frozen in ice from Napoleon to the present day, as an obvious way to dodge the implications of them "looking for another evil boss to serve" in the 20th C.

The scope of the damage, & the enormous amounts of money, time, & energy...required to bring us just back to 2024 levels, boggles the mind. I am not sure anyone has really wrapped their heads around what this means, given that so many other areas of public life will need Marshall Plans of their own.

i am really tired of this idea, this profoundly stupid idea, that we are not allowed to express negative opinions about the majority of the population

The Woman Who Might Have Been D.B. Cooper The only unsolved skyjacking case in history might have been pulled off by a woman.

Article doesn't quite get some pronouns correct but it's interesting, she confessed with enough of a backstory to be believable

The first panel shows a crow with the title "How to live a good life". The second panel shows a crow cawing at itself in the mirror with the subheading "Make friends". The next panel says "Explore" and shows a crow looking into a commercial waste bin. The next says "Try new things" with a crow eating something vile. The next one says "Be curious" and shows the crow grabbing a hissing cat's tail". The final frame says "Get a hobby" and shows the crow looking closely at a book of matches.

The Jackson estate can't hide Leaving Neverland from those who've already seen it A suppressive legal battle turned the moving Sundance documentary Leaving Neverland into a ghost haunting the Michael Jackson biopic.

This essay, by @timgrierson.bsky.social, on Leaving Neverland and how so many people have once again chosen to ignore the reality of Michael Jackson’s legacy is as excellent as others have said: www.avclub.com/leaving-neve...

Unhappy to report the phishing one is quickly becoming a real problem now. Why go to the trouble of social engineering when people will just give up their ID, financial info, biometrics, etc. to an AV portal? There's no standards so how can you differentiate a fake one from a real one?

The average person who travels rarely & has to pay for everything and carefully plans timelines to maximize what they can see & do: if I miss this flight, I’ll miss a tour and the hotel check in and those are non-refundable

Business guy who hasn’t paid for a flight in 17 years: lol lmao

There's actually a fun story behind this: the guy who was NYC superintendent of school buildings from 1891 to 1923 was an architect who believed in holistic learning, and wanted to inspire kids to rise out of poverty by giving them a sense of the possibility of granduer through construction.

This Data Center is Getting a $77 Million Tax Break to Create One Job No other project in the country has gotten such a large subsidy to create so few jobs, according to watchdogs.

Rockland County, NY, gave a $77 million data center tax break to JP Morgan Chase to create exactly one job. On a dollars-per-job basis it appears to be the costliest subsidy in U.S. history, possibly even a world record
