I hardly drink at home anymore, but today I was in the right mood for a tipple, and I figured Saturn 2021 by Lajka - pivovar a café could be the right tipple for said mood. What a gorgeous thing! Still very lively but more balanced, and as heart warming as a fond memory from childhood.

The stress is killing me, I tell you...
Two words for those into 90's nostalgia: Santanico Pandemonium.
Hard to say. It's also possible the batches were too large for their output and stayed too long in the tanks. But honestly, I don't know. The fact is that they had the size of the regional brewery with the out of a minipivovar.
Smaller. IIRC, they used a 50-100 hl brew house to produce less than 10,000 hl/year by the end - which could be one of the reasons for their drop in quality.
I'm curious. They seem to have kept the recipes, but they use a 10 hl kit now.
Great news! A group of local businesspeople have resurrected Pivovar Herold, in Březnice. The doors are opening on 1 May. Can't wait to get my hands on their Tmavý Speciál 13°
Interesting, yeah.
There's no word in Spanish, either. I would be surprised if German DIDN'T have one, should check it out.
There are loads of similar expressions in Czech, e.g. Multivitamin juice is also called "Mulťák"
How accurate is this starterpack?
Getting a crave for 1860's Sicilan macaroni pie was not on me cards today. A classic like The Leopard can do that for you...
And with this pivíčko al fresco I declare spring officially commenced
Is Ambiente to blame, really? The way I see, the owners of U Sadu decided to close up shop on their own terms, and/or the landlord made the rent too expensive. Either way, Lokál will taking a space that would otherwise be empty.
Not a fan of Lokál, BTW
I'm very happy with the result of my first go at (mini) baguettes. Made with my pizza dough, they came out lovely
I'll just leave this hear for your enjoyment...

A quiet desítka al (muy) fresco, before the Masopustní merrymaking begins at Únětický pivovar. Bocks shall fall.
Since it's Valentín today, I thought spicy chicken hearts in black beer would be appropriate (and a nice lunch before leaving to Únětický pivovar for Masopust). I picked a can of OSTRAVAR's Černá Barbora for cooking. Really good pivo this is! And it was less than 20 Kačky.
Look what I found in the cupboard! The last bottle of Sigurd, the Norwegian raw ale I brewed (assisting Sigurd, the Kveikman from Kveik Training) in October 2023, at Černokostelecký pivovar. It tastes almost as if it had been brewed a couple of months ago! Beautiful
It's good. Better keep annoying tourist at the usual traps.
It's unfortunately not surprising. They were about to shut down in the middle of last year. A shame, though.
Fuck me Ježíšek! Kamenická 10° tonight at Zasekávák is bringing memories of Koutská Desítka in the good old days.
Otherwise, the atmosphere is, as usual here, very inviting for imbibing.
Yeah. By the Křizíková metro station
A food delivery robot spotted today in Prague. I hope the customer isn't too hungry, because that bugger is very slow.
I hope this is just a stumble by someone still finding their bearings, because I would hate Lajka to turn into another of the countless mediocre minipivovary we have here.
Also, the previous brewer made some of the most interesting stuff around, and I doubt his philosophy will be carried on.
Lajka has a new head brewer. The Stout 11 was his first brew, and it's excellent. Čerstvá Červenka 10 was like a symphony of off flavours. Bohemian 11 was an improvement, with a mild note of stewed veg that would have been much easier to ignore if the hops (kazbek & saturn) had shone as they should.
Same company, cheaper beer, but not really worse.
Bière de Noël 16, by Pivovar Kolkovna does the Belgian thing very well; packed with perníkové koření, while steering well clear of the gimmick. It's served way too cold, though. But that gives you a good excuse to get a velký to sip slowly and let it warm up.
