"You’re allowed to take a moment – just a moment – after a year of struggle, to be proud of the fact that we’re still here. We’re still fighting. And no matter how long and difficult the struggle is – it is a fight we will win, together."

Aside from Attitude with an op-ed from @transsolidarity.bsky.social founder, this significant anniversary, just like the news a year ago, is being marked without Trans+ journalists and writers by UK media
At @wearequeeraf.com we've taken a different approach 👇
www.wearequeeraf.com/judgment-day...
It sits alongside a reflective piece by @jessothomson.co.uk - the only Trans+ journalist commissioned to write about the ruling (based on this piece) which went on to become the go-to source for the folks who wanted to understand it's rammifications.

This is one of the only single resources that comprehensively captures:
👉 The entire timeline to the decision
👉 The twists and turns since
👉 The impact of the decision that upended Trans+ rights in the UK
And it's written by Trans+ journalist @mimihansford.bsky.social who asks: What now?

The EHRC recently received feedback on the updated Code from the UK government.
🆕🚨 - Just days ahead of the anniversary of the For Women Scotland Supreme Court decision that upended UK Trans+ rights, the EHRC has announced it has submitted a new draft code of practice following comments from the Government.

I guess this is what a reporter free newsroom looks like.
An op-ed from a Labour health secretary who has overseen some of the most damaging policies towards Trans+ youth in a decade

A "reporter free newsroom" has no business calling itself a newsroom. Massively disappointing.
We deserve better than just celeb gossip and clickbait. Jamie Wareham QueerAF Founder and director HE/HIM gay, queer, disabled We know all too well how terrible so many of the mainstream media titles have been to our community. And while they lean into anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric to chase clicks and rage bait, some of the gay news sector has been left with little choice but to go against the natural instincts of it’s journalists and editors, thanks to market forces. We’re hearing more and more in our meetings with activists, community groups, and journalists about the shift you’re all noticing away from original news and investigations. This is all undermining what incredible LGBTQIA+ journalists want to deliver in their sometimes very tough jobs both in gay media, and in the mainstream. It is a structural issue.

“And while they lean into anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric to chase clicks and rage bait, even gay media can be pushed off course by market pressures."
Just want to underscore how much journalistic talent will go as part of this, and what a shame that is.
My thoughts are with the dedicated LGBTQIA+ journalists, who, despite toxic work culture and editorial agendas, have fought hard to do good work for our community in its newsroom.
Has been so fantastic to work with @whatthetrans.com at @wearequeeraf.com, publishing exclusive investigations in our newsletter and podcasts together - while investing in Trans+ journalistic talent

If QueerAF had more resources, I can assure you - we'd double down even further on our investigations and news output, but even more so: We'd train, mentor and invest in an even bigger new generation of queer journalists.

We need more queer journalism, and whatever we may think about this brand - its further divestment from news leaves a growing news gap for our community. Something we should all be concerned about.

It's been an acutely difficult time for journalists who care about our community in the last year.
My thoughts amid the news are with the dedicated LGBTQIA+ journalists, who, despite toxic work culture and editorial agendas, have fought hard to do good work for our community in its newsroom.
A culture where predatory and bullying behaviour often goes unchecked. Journalists deserve safe and supportive work environments. As allegations from former staff members have continued to emerge over the last two years, I've spent a great deal of time speaking to and supporting a number of people close to the brand. Journalists have had little to no well-being support amid difficult allegations, and have often been left in the dark. This, while trying to pursue the role they thought they were there to do: Producing journalism for the LGBTQIA+ community, so we can all be better informed about the growing attacks on our rights.
Media spaces have cultures where predatory and bullying behaviour often goes unchecked.

When stories about allegations against senior team members at PinkNews (which have been long denied) first began to gather steam, my first thought was how it was indicative of a broader cultural issue in the gay media and for LGBTQIA+ journalists in the mainstream.
I set up @wearequeeraf.com because of the malpractice and toxic cultures I've seen at multiple gay and mainstream outlets I’ve worked for.
Suffice to say, some of these included inappropriate touching and uncomfortable flirtatious behaviours from bosses 🧵

Queer journalists should be writing our news, which needs better justice than short, lacking in nuance social media captions – in a world where our rights are under attack.
PinkNews have now confirmed the redundancy consultation to @wearequeeraf.com, and this divestment in news is concerning 👇
This article is one part of six, looking at the legal cases, political changes and campaigns that have shaped UK Trans+ rights

Given the news about adult Trans+ healthcare reviews, and the removal of care for under 18s, this excellent piece of journalism by @ludovicparsons.bsky.social - is incredibly timely
To fight back, we all need to better understand the system that was built to gatekeep, not help Trans+ people 👇

20 years ago, a landmark decision at the European Court of Human Rights changed the lives of Trans+ people in the UK and Europe.
It was a pivotal moment in Trans+ history – but now its significance is being erased.
