You know that someone is already going "lets put the AIs that plot murder if told they'll be shut down into the super fast robots to see what happens"
FDA approval fast tracked for psychedelics but healthcare for trans people is far too dangerous
Honestly if sci-fi has taught me anything, "don't make the robots able to outrun humans" is right up there

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, when I was transitioning, Stonewall cared more about access to power and money than about queer people. By appointing a transphobic washed-up Labour politician as Chair they have signalled a return to that position.
This is the Mog i know
I speak to a lot of people about JK Rowling - many once close friends with her. I was once friends with her. And they all say she is now very changed.
To pretend she is not radicalised, to give succour to her views on trans people, is an astonishing thing for Kezia, as Chair of Stonewall, to do.
The big worry here is that Stonewall is in the room with the anti-trans activist Labour government when discussing who should and shouldn’t be protected by a conversion therapy abuse prohibition bill
I've said this time and time again, institutional orgs like Stonewall will absolutely capitulate

it's literally "you read one, you read them all".
All I know about job applicants that use AI is that they can use AI. What's the point? If you can't answer the questions using your own skills, you'll struggle at the job.
Feels like people are just forgetting how to use their own brains.
We're going to have to rethink how we do recruitment in the AI age because it's ruined job applications.
I don't think i can bear to read any more applications like:
This isn't an issue of [x], it's one of [Y]. The implications are clear.

Hope i deserved that A in sociology a level 😂😅
"most suited to the environment/system which which it develops".
White Heteropatriarchal Capitalism is a system which rewards certain attributes not because they're the best...
IIRC Darwin liked the phrase so he started using it for his own "natural selection" theory.
So it could technically be used in relation to economic theory, but with caution for the exact reason the OP notes; "fittest" is a complex term which doesn't mean "strongest/fastest/best" but...
I don't want to take on a PhD person, as i only have an A Level in sociology and that was a LONG time ago, but i recall the phrase "survival of the fittest" being coined by Herbert Spencer who was using it about economic competitiveness & connecting it to Darwin's work.
One of the most upsetting and frustrating things over the past 10 years has been watching trans people go from being an accepted, if often misunderstood, reality of the world, to being a contested ideological concept which can somehow be mandated out of existence through cruelty.
When ideological dogmatism meets the reality of ordinary people's lives

15 years ago, I did my master's thesis on Harry Potter.
In 2020, I threw out all my Harry Potter books.
In 2023 (or 4, I can't remember), I burned the letter I had from JK Rowling herself.
If I can let go of them, you can too.

Feels like a cruel irony that these both start on April's fool day
Good morning I burned my finger on a piece of toast today
The world has moved on and there seems to be a collective determination to forget.
But to ignore the findings of the Inquiry disrespects the sacrifices of those who held key services together and those who died.
It would leave us as unprepared for the next pandemic as we were for this one. 18/19
Experts from SAGE, who were advising the government, testified that the government was not following the science in the autumn and winter of 2020. 11/19
🧵The Covid Inquiry’s latest reports have made one thing brutally clear: the first year of the pandemic - and especially the second Covid wave in winter 2020/21 - was devastating.
Much of that devastation was avoidable.

Tweet from JK Rowling: Today's ruling by the IOC means a welcome return to fair sport for women and girls, but I'll never forget the scandal of Paris 2024, when people who consider themselves supremely virtuous and progressive publicly cheered on men punching women.
Been thinking about it since I saw JK Rowling posted this yesterday about the IOC's new policy, calling Imane Khelif a man.
Imane Khelif was born female. She was raised as a girl. Her original birth certificate says female. She's always been a woman.
But sure. "Men punching women."
