Look, for my money the absolute game changer technologies right now are batteries and biosciences, not statistically modeling a mid conversation, but you do you.

It “worked” for Keir Starmer, amirite?
For some reason, derm appears to be a specialty that is poorly covered around here. There are PAs and NPs covering most of the appointments - if you need the actual MD, the wait is staggering.
TRANSCRIPT OF CARTOON This cartoon has four regular panels, plus a tiny "kicker" panel under the bottom. PANEL 1 A large caption says "PRE-ELECTION." Two people, a casually dressed woman and a more business-dressed man, are talking in an office. The man makes a dismissive gesture. WOMAN: Progressives have some ideas for this election... MAN: Here's my idea. Step one: donate to our campaign. Step two: you get lost. PANEL 2 The man pushes the woman out of the office. WOMAN: Hey! MAN: No insult, but you woke special interest social justice freaks repel normie voters. Leave us in charge of this election so we can win! PANEL 3 The man sits behind his desk, looking very pleased. MAN: Good riddance! Now we can run a winning campaign - a centrist campaign with a centrist candidate and centrist strategies! PANEL 4 A large caption says "POST-ELECTION". The same man and woman are in a hallway. She glares at him, while he yells at her, jumping with fury. MAN: WE LOST AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! KICKER PANEL The man smiles as he talks to Barry the cartoonist. MAN: Centrist Democrats can't fail! We can only be failed.

OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit
Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here
Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse
Media and universities: AI is here to stay
Many of the criticisms in this report are true or partially true, but the biggest problem that's brought down U.S. colleges is indeed the 50-year crusade by the right to wipe away any notion that higher ed is a public good, massively cut funding for publics, and create the student debt crisis
Love Zelazny’s work - well warranted!
But… wasn’t his first name Roger?
Meanwhile, now I'm wondering when QC is going to dive into the ethical implications of the Director extruding and re-absorbing sentient beings willy-nilly.
What is your desired turnaround time? I would be happy to help, but my next couple of weeks are very busy.
But did it involve any GOTOs, Ken? Because *that* would be a sin against Dijkstra himself! 🤣
Off of Trump Tower
A-freakin-men. A friend of mine used Clever Hans as an example in a recent talk about the history of AI hype.
haven’t seemed terribly interested in governing for … oh, most of my lifetime
Ok, Charlie Brown.
I keep seeing "all authors use AI, the real issue is they're being forced to be sneaky about it" headlines.
Full stop No. This is a lie peddled for normalization. It's schoolyard-level pressure tactics "C'mon, all the cool kids are already doing it. We won't tell. It's fine. We're on your side."

Don’t know how much literal truth is here, but @kenburnside.bsky.social, I guarantee you will enjoy it: sightlessscribbles.com/posts/the-pa...
it's a real mindfuck to see the leadership of a publication creating some of the most important journalism of a generation trying to screw the people doing the work
sorry, what’s this now?
Nonsequitur, but: You have the best display names. 🤣 Next time I need to generate online handles for my Shadowrun game, I’m just gonna borrow yours.
I was asked to give my thoughts on generative AI usage in games - here they are!
my editor told me that people were calling Trump’s foreign policy the Jolene doctrine bc he’s taking things “just because he can” and I said it was unfair to Jolene to name a doctrine after a motivation a third party projected on her and he got annoyed and said I should “go tweet that”
Nigel certainly thinks so.
🚨 A new frontier of coordinated disinformation.
Fossil fuel industry front groups are using AI platforms to flood clean air regulators with fake public comments—submitted under real residents' names, without their consent.

COGLEY: "And I repeat, I speak of rights. A machine has none. A man must. My client has the right to face his accuser, and if you do not grant him that right, you have brought us down to the level of the machine. Indeed, you have elevated that machine above us."
‘85% of IT leaders say traceability and explainability gaps have delayed or stopped AI projects from reaching production.‘
I love the term ‘traceability and explainability gaps’ as a way of saying ‘We have no way of knowing why our LLM bots do things and we’ve suddenly realized that’s a problem’.
This is ultimately what a LOT of prepper/gun dude stuff is about: talismans and rituals against randomness, against an indifferent universe where sometimes bad things just happen for no reason to you. Where none of us are going to get out alive in the end, but maybe I will, if I just do this.
That’s the rice lorry story, no? 🤣
