Experience sampling methods require more than numbers - Communications Psychology The experience sampling method (ESM) collects real-time reports of people’s feelings, actions, and surroundings, and originally included both numerical and open-ended responses. Whereas most studies t...

Perspective:
Open-ended responses can improve ESM data by grounding it in real-world experiences and phenomena as they are experienced in everyday life. Handbooks and guidelines on ESM should include sections on collecting and analyzing open-ended text items.

Part 1: How do LLMs work?
Part 1: How do LLMs work? YouTube video by Andrew Perfors

I just created a series of seven deep-dive videos about AI, which I've posted to youtube and now here. 😊

Targeted to laypeople, they explore how LLMs work, what they can do, and what impacts they have on learning, well-being, disinformation, the workplace, the economy, and the environment.

Pokémon Go is still a reliable standby for my 9yo who got into it with her (70+yo) grandma during the pandemic. The number of times having a Pokémon game/index on my phone has been a life saver is wild!

Just heard from someone who had a 1% grant not funded through NIMH.

Why?

Perhaps no payline for 2026?

2025 all full up?

Unclear. But totally bonkers and indicative of the complete gutting of the NIH/NIMH senior and grants processing peeps.

The ones who remain are working so hard.

My former institution Colby College is hiring a tenure track in intergroup relations, broadly defined & open to many psych areas (not just social). This is my replacement line. I truly enjoyed my time at Colby and it's a great dept! Happy to answer Qs if I can.

They recovered over 180 bullet shells at the CDC. Debris from shattered glass is still being cleaned up. I am completely stunned at how quickly the news cycle has moved on. This was an act of terrorism targeting public health experts, and the response seems to be a collective shrug.

We got what I believe to be close to a "perfect" NSF score after our first submission--three "Excellent" reviews, highly competitive. The only minor weakness was that we could reduce our budget. It won't be funded. There is no path forward. I'm devastated.

Quite a long read, but super important - recognising the assumptions we make in psych research is something more of us should do🫣

Inside the desperate rush to save decades of US scientific data from deletion Swathes of scientific data deletions are sweeping across US government websites – with decades of research at risk. Now, scientists are racing to save their work before it's lost.

"I have never seen anything like this in nearly 40 years of doing science," says Paul Bierman, a geomorphologist at the University of Vermont. "I think it's an unmitigated disaster."
