I write because I daydream. It's part wanting to share those daydreams, be seen and understood, and part because that's just how I process emotions. I enjoy the craft of storytelling and how intrinsically human it is. I've been a writer since I was 7 years old, I don't know how to be anything else.

This isn't so much a news story, but I remember a ballot measure in 1992 that would have banned teachers from discussing homosexuality in schools. My parents had a "No on 9" sign in our front yard, and I kept that sign for years. That was my political awakening.
