This is actually incredibly interesting

When a family member shares a calendar with me, why do I inherit to their reminder notifications? I don’t need to be notified that it’s “time to go” to an event I’m not attending (but it’s helpful for me to know what my people are up to on a given night)

But this only works when they send it directly to the protonmail dot com address, not the aliases like pm dot me or proton dot me.

Almost everyone I know uses Gmail. But I use proton mail. But I use my proton mail email address to create a Google account, which supports calendar. So when someone sends me a calendar invite to my protonmail address, it shows up in my Google Calendar.

Cool! But also, what?

Man, calendar apps have got to be like the most difficult problem space in the world, right?

And I’m not talking about weird holiday patterns, I’m talking about sharing events and calendars, how to handle multiple platforms and services.

And the SCALE! Why does the graphic have to be so huge compared to the tiny people in the corner? 🤢

I can’t even tell what they were going for if not… *that*.

A fist-bump? Is it supposed to be a fist-bump?

When the business logic is tightly coupled with the UI layer (which is true for most UIKit MVC and MVVM apps), then you can’t switch to another UI framework without re-writing 90% of the app.

Transitioning from UIKit to SwiftUI is hard enough. It is so much more complicated than “slapping a different UI on”.

Neat!
But the “business logic” is arguably the least difficult part of building a mobile app. Every app I’ve worked on has been 90% UI code 😕

One of those weird weeks where I feel exhausted, and I can’t tell if it’s because I’m struggling to keep up, or because I’m setting my own bar too high for myself.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Except it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we pull it in the direction of justice. What keeps me hopeful during times like these is being surrounded by people who are doing just that.

Some people take feedback as useful suggestions (whether they accept it or not); some take it as a personal attack.

The latter take much longer to learn anything. Sometimes too long.

I know it sucks but it’s the fastest way to get better.
