I kind of think this is an important point to reiterate. It's never "rockets vs science." And sometimes (like with the Artemis II mission), there is science that can piggy-back on missions where enabling human spaceflight is the primary goal. The proposed science cuts are just about cutting science.

Those Fuel Coffee shops are a great opportunity for someone who wants to own a small neighborhood bookstore/cafe. There are lots of fun possibilities for inventive booksellers to build bookish communities out of those spaces.
This is breaking the fundamental social compact between writer and editor it's like the Red Wedding for people who write for a living
Washington Post Editorial Board headline: “The Texas gerrymander freak out. What’s happening in Texas is not a threat to democracy.”
Washington Post Editorial Board headline: “Virginia plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss. The redistricting scheme was always a power grab by Democrats. Voters went along with it.”
The Washington Post Editorial Board was fine with Republicans gerrymandering in Texas.
But when Democrats responded in Virginia, it’s a “power grab” that “plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss.”
Indeed. Complaints about redistricting are invalid. Republicans did it everywhere and invalidated a Constitutional Amendment so they could do it on explicitly racial lines.
There are two choices: use the same levers of power as Republicans do, or let them win. There is no "principled" opposition.
My most liberal idpol radlib take is that I think it's pretty bad that
right wing forces are actively intervening on behalf of the Klan with the full weight of the state legal apparatus
“What I didn’t know was that measles can cause long-term complications. A child can seem fine while the virus slowly replicates in her brain… Because both Britain and the United States are confronting outbreaks, I am sharing my story. Parents should know just how dangerous this disease is.”
I wanted to write about Campfire for years but could never get an attending author to go on the record about it. The sensory deprivation tank image in this piece is brilliant.
Congratulations, so exciting!!! 🎉
Because some comments make me think people missed the PSAs I do semi-regularly: if you were born before 1987, you should get a MMR booster now. The second childhood dose of MMR wasn't added until 1989, and folks who were older than 2 (the age for the 2nd) may not have gotten it.
Big news about PROTEC17 stepping up for its CARE team workers and filing an unfair labor practice. Particularly brave to take on SPOG in this way.

The thing that is hard about writing is conclusions. Also introductions. And the middle stuff.
I’ll be damned if I’m going to change my bad writing just because some bad readers can’t tell the difference between artisanal bad writing and algorithmic bad writing. I was bad at this first; let the robots change.

I had a wonderful time talking to Sujin Witherspoon last week (@tswitherspoon.bsky.social) about her new book! We talked about the dreaded sophomore slump, when to follow tropes and when to subvert them, and much more. Romcoms aren't usually my thing, but hers truly make me laugh out loud!
