At the moment there are two fixed points on our morning walk, the wall where I sit and rest my painful back halfway round and the hedge where #sophiefromromania stops for a good scratch

Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

Just read this article too. Deeply disturbing company and yet more evidence that the Tech Bros see themselves as civilisational guardians. #Palantir should be no where near U.K. government business

They’re doing to America what they did to Christianity | Bill McKibben Trump’s wrecking-ball approach to America has a precedent: the evangelical perversion of Jesus’s message of radical love to one of hate and aggression

These people are more terrifying than any Islamic Jihadi. They have the means and the ability to affect the lives of all of us profoundly. Terrifying especially to us atheists. #MAGA #Imafraidofamericans

This is the ultimate test for a constitutional order.

Either constitutional mechanisms are used to check and balance this, and remove him from office, or they are not.

For there can be no greater test for any constitution.

Okay I’m going to have a major moan. I look at City’s team yesterday & we could have had Semenyo, Guehi & Cherki for not much more than we paid for Wirtz or Issac. Terrible decisions made last year have come back to haunt us. Coupled with Slot lacking ideas or ability to inspire it’s a disaster #LFC

Excerpt from the piece:

"Neither the festival itself or its key sponsor, Pepsi, have, at the time of writing, bothered to respond at all to inquiries from the paper I work for. The questions we asked them were as follows:

- Did you at any point consider whether it was a good idea to invite a rapper who has repeatedly engaged in antisemitic and Neo-Nazi behaviour – most lately less than a year ago – to headline your festival?

- Do you understand that there is a significant chance that West may engage in antisemitic and/or Nazi remarks before an audience of tens of thousands of people, at our festival?

- Do you have anything to say to the tens of thousands of Jewish people living in London – many of whom live quite close to Finsbury Park?

Given the circumstances in question, it seems like the least that Wireless could do is have some sort of plan in place to mitigate the risk that West might use the (literal) platform at their festival, underneath their logos and branding, to engage in the same behaviour he has repeatedly exhibited in the past. Will there be a psych evaluation beforehand? Will there be medical officers backstage? Is there a plan to immediately cut the microphones and the electrics if he starts to engage in awful behaviour? Given the circumstances, planning for this seems like the absolute least that a responsible festival should be doing. But we have received no reply whatsoever. Whether that is due to incompetence, panic or something else, we can only speculate."

I have written about the Wireless Festival's announcement that Kanye West will be headlining three nights at Finsbury Park this summer:

Kanye West being booked to headline Wireless Fest on all three nights feels like a major and utterly grim cultural shift. Ten years ago, a huge artist who recorded and released a tune called “Heil H*tler” would have gone to the wilderness and stayed there. But he has been welcomed back in through the front door. And this is on the heads of the festival organisers, each of whom should be publicly grilled about this choice. Indulgence of anti-Semitism is one of the early warning signs of the return of old horrors, and it doesn’t get more indulgent than this.

Yep. I can’t remember the last time I held my breath like that for a launch. So so inspiring and exciting. This is what the USA should be doing, inspiring people.

Ever wonder why most of the media provide wall-to-wall coverage of everything the far right does or says, while ignoring far bigger rallies and events and far more interesting discussions elsewhere on the political spectrum?
There's no mystery. It's because they want the far right to triumph.

Keep a Disabled Trans Woman Housed By Lavender Alliance

I now have LESS than 2 weeks to reach my goal before I am homeless on the first. Extra money is needed because I found out my housing stipend doesn't kick in for 6 months and without it I can't afford accessible housing and will likely have nowhere to go.

UK ban on Palestine Action unlawful, high court judges rule Protest group’s co-founder wins legal challenge against decision to proscribe it under anti-terrorism laws

Outstanding. A triumph for liberty and against unrestrained state power. The government should be ashamed of having to be forced into this position.

'UK has been colonised by immigrants', says INEOS boss and Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe In an interview with Sky News's Ed Conway, Sir Jim says Britain faces profound political, social and economic challenges, among them an unprecedented rise in immigration in recent years.

What a thoroughly #Nasty #shit #Ratcliffe is! He is a tax exile complaining about a Country he doesn’t live in!!

Yes funny enough it is the Monaco dwelling, job cutting, profit maximising billionaire owner of Manchester United insulting millions of hard working immigrants who staff the services the UK needs to survive whilst paying taxes he dodges. The same immigrants who’s nations were stripped by colonial UK
