This has been a serious topic of conversation since the early days of MLS and it hasn’t gone any further than a topic because owners are opposed to the idea. I suspect nothing will change anytime soon with a single-entity structure, which MLS remains to be.

I’m sure owners are against this move. Unfortunately, soccer doesn’t have the same cultural relevance in America as it does internationally. Fewer people are willing to brave uncomfortably cold temperatures to see an MLS match in the winter, which would negatively impact ticket revenues.
