When it comes to DHS, we need to pay our TSA agents, and fully fund FEMA, the Coast Guard, and our cybersecurity. That’s exactly what the Senate unanimously agreed upon, but Speaker Johnson continues to refuse to let the House pass that bipartisan legislation or rein in or reform ICE and CBP.

Together, we must stand against such a purely partisan bill, while standing for funding for the TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and our cybersecurity.
The One Big Beautiful Bill authorized $190 billion for DHS. Now, without any of the much-needed commonsensical reforms to ICE and CBP that I have called for, President Trump and Speaker Johnson are getting ready to pass a purely partisan bill that funnels tens of billions of dollars more to DHS.
Fuel prices have increased exponentially because of the President’s prolonged and unauthorized war in Iran. Now, this Administration is saying prices won’t come down any time soon. Congress must pass a War Powers Resolution to bring this quagmire of a war in Iran to an end and lower costs.
When a constituent faced an 8-month delay on his tax refund, he contacted me. I opened a case with the IRS, but they said nothing could be done. I kept pushing, escalated to agency leadership, and his $7k refund was immediately processed. I’ll always fight the IRS for to get your money.
Glad I had the chance to interact with to a group of local students and their teachers during their visit to the Seymour Marine Center Education program.
Secretary Kennedy has demonstrated a stark lack of leadership when it comes to protecting working families’ health and safety. I pressed him on this Administration’s months-long health agency vacancies that are jeopardizing working families’ health and making us less safe.
This Administration’s war of choice in Iran is about to be a quagmire. Without a set plan, strategy, or definition of victory, this unauthorized war continues to put our servicemembers lives at risk and worsens the affordability crisis for working families across the country.
Just held another round of successful office hours to hear from CA-19 residents on matters ranging from problems with the IRS to concerns with the current Administration. There’s no issue too small when serving constituents.
Good to meet with local leaders about how we can ensure the federal power of the purse is felt at home in California's 19th Congressional District.
I recently helped a constituent to resolve her issue with the Postal Service. Proud that we were able to solve the problem in just two days.
Glad I had the opportunity to tour the veterans resource center at Cabrillo College and talk to the veterans who are continuing to serve our Santa Cruz community while enhancing their future.
Long-term vacancies at the CDC and the Office of the Surgeon General put our country’s health and safety at risk. That’s why I questioned HHS Secretary Kennedy on his consistent lack of leadership over our critical health agencies.
The American people have a right to know how their tax dollars are being spent. That’s why I introduced the Expedited Transparency Act with Rep. Josh Brecheen to require the federal government to keep government spending on USAspending.gov up to date. Hardworking taxpayers deserve nothing less.
When it comes to working with the IRS, expediency matters. When a local business owner called me about an IRS refund check that had been missing for four years, I immediately contacted the agency to help move things along. Just one month later, he received the $95,000 refund check in the mail.
This Administration’s long-term vacancies at HHS put Americans’ health and safety at risk. I questioned Secretary Kennedy on these inexcusable vacancies in his Department. I will continue to hold this Administration accountable while fighting to build a strong and reliable health care system.
Congratulations to the County of Santa Cruz for launching the first ever Ripple Effect Arts Festival to celebrate our local artists! The arts are integral to our Santa Cruz history and culture, and I look forward to this event highlighting the 19th Congressional District’s local spirit.
When a constituent said he was missing his IRS refund check due to a processing delay, I was happy to help. I reached out to the agency, straightened out the issue causing the delay, and within two months, he received his refund check for $28,725.15. I’m always to help my constituents with the IRS.
This Administration’s senseless tariff policy does nothing to deliver on the President’s promises to lower costs for working families. That’s why I introduced my bipartisan Stop Global Tariffs Act to eliminate the blanket 10% global tariff and ensure reimbursements for all affected businesses.
As your U.S. Representative, I take pride in making sure the federal power of the purse is felt right here at home. I secured $850,000 in federal funding to rebuild the City of Seaside’s San Pablo Pedestrian Bridge to connect our parks and make sure students can use it to get to school safely.
The American people deserve to have a Commander in Chief who is able to discharge his or her duties without some form of incapacity or infirmity. That’s why I joined a bill to establish a nonpartisan permanent Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office.
This Administration’s cuts to the CDC put the health and safety of our working families at risk. I questioned Secretary RFK Jr. about the cuts to personnel at the CDC and inability to fill these vacancies. I'll continue to hold this Administration accountable to protect Americans' health and safety.
The War in Iran is about to be a quagmire. I voted yes on another War Powers Resolution. But Speaker Johnson and the majority blocked it.
We need to have more debate in the United States Congress. We need to vote on more War Powers Resolutions because we need to end this war now.
Working families in CA-19 and across the country are struggling to pay for their healthcare because Speaker Johnson refused to work with Democrats to stop the expiration of the ACA tax credits. Congress must act to extend these lifesaving credits and ensure all Americans can access affordable care.
This Administration and the Majority in Congress might be “exhausted” by our efforts to end this war of choice in Iran, but the American people are exhausted by the rising costs that have resulted from it. I will continue to fight in Congress to pass a War Powers Resolution and end this conflict.
This Administration has cut Congress out of the budget process and refuses to implement the investment approved by Congress. While the courts have been a bulwark in stopping these illegal cuts, I'll continue to push back and hold the President, Director Vought, and this Administration accountable.
After waiting over a year for his 2024 IRS refund that never came, a constituent asked me for help securing his money. I contacted the agency immediately, advocated on his behalf, and within just a few months, he got his refund for over $14,500. I’ll always fight to get you your hard-earned money.
Congratulations to the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History on receiving the highest accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums. This museum is not only a pillar of the Santa Cruz community but an important part of preserving our history here in the 19th Congressional District.
This Administration’s blockade of Iran is making everyday items from food, to fuel, to fertilizer more expensive for working families. Congress needs to step up and bring this war to an end by passing an Iran War Powers Resolution.

This Tax Day, working families across California’s 19th Congressional District and the country are already struggling with rising prices due to this Administration’s senseless tariff policies and war of choice in Iran.
