Phelan’s firing comes after a rocky tenure under Hegseth and Feinberg, including tension over Phelan’s close relationship with President Trump, according to three people familiar with the internal discussions. Phelan regularly chats with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club, just down the street from his own Florida home, and told lawmakers last year that he texts with the president about shipbuilding in the middle of the night. The top Pentagon leaders were particularly annoyed last fall when Phelan pitched the idea for a modern battleship directly to Trump, bypassing Hegseth, the people said.
According to the WSJ, Hegseth abruptly fired the Navy Secretary in the middle of a crucial wartime naval blockade because he was jelly of his closeness with Trump. These are the dumbest, most embarrassing, childish nitwits alive - and they are in charge of the world's most monumental military might.
NEW: In a party-line vote, North Carolina's GOP-led election board rejected a proposal that would have prepared election officials on how to handle ICE agents at the polls or attempts to seize ballots.
Republicans on the board warned against overreacting to hypothetical scenarios.
Congressional Republicans have voted AGAINST bills to end gerrymandering at least twice. They pushed lawsuits to SCOTUS to greenlight their own g-m. So, boohoo, have a taste of their own medicine.
North Carolina Republicans have gerrymandered the state for the past 14 years. Statewide offices tend to be Democrats, but districts are dominated by the same Republicans who drew the districts.
There are some programs in some states that offer solar panels to lower socioeconomic areas. But, clearly not enough. I hope this changes, too.
That's too bad. Sometimes when driving through red states I find them fewer and further between. But, since 2020 when I got my EV, the charging availability has vastly improved. It will only improve from here on. And, driving an EV is a FAR superior driving experience!

EV charging stations can be found at grocery stores, malls, near some worksites, in parking garages. There will be a cost, but 1/3 or less than gas. Look around to see if there are any convenient locations near you to charge. My town has a free one at the library and beside the police station!

I should have specified - I sent a THANK YOU note to my REPUBLICAN Rep and REPUBLICAN Senators, thanking them for highlighting SPLCs valuable work. They must be quite successful to draw the ire of Trump and Ka$h.
Agreed. If Republicans (usually the oppressor) become the victims (the oppressed), maybe they'll come to the table to end it. Until then, let's BLUE gerrymander everywhere we can!
Buncombe County, where I live, is in western NC and is a bright blue dot which is not reflected on this map. But, still, NC has been one of the most gerrymandered states since 2012. Republicans have elected themselves since, with help from NCSC & US SCOTUS.

Some are claiming this gerrymandering escalation was triggered by NY not Texas. That’s false. The NY Dems case is comparable to what NC Republicans did — a battle between the legislature and the courts over the post-2020 map. What Texas did is something else: rip up a map they wanted for a new one.
