Felton Common-a medieval common- is being threatened by a land-grab by Bristol Airport (owned by Macquarie Group; the 'custodians' of Thames Water). Learn more about this precious piece of common-land at 6.36 into the podcast. We need your help on this issue...

Posts by No Airport Expansion
Annual global aviation fuel consumption (blue) vs "Sustainable Aviation Fuel" production (that's the barely visible red bit).
Rachel Reeves says we can expand Heathrow and many other airports without worrying about climate impacts because SAF is a 'game changer'.
Time for a reality check.
We need systemic change, not just individual change - BUT a lot of resistance to systemic change is built on the belief that individuals don't care & won't change.
Individual action can be a good start for creating social momentum and maybe getting involved in campaigning against airport expansion!
"We believe it is reckless to continue piecemeal airport expansion based on poorly evidenced claims of economic benefit, whilst ignoring the ever-increasing costs of damage caused by climate change."
We stand with LADACAN on this important point of principle and hope they are able to appeal.
The @londonassembly.bsky.social has written to Transport Secretary highlighting that Heathrow expansion would:
1) Undermine London's air quality progress
2) Conflict with climate goals
3) Expose more Londoners to harmful aircraft noise www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/w...
MISSING: Closing tax loopholes for private jets, taxing airplane fuel, a frequent flyer levy.
Why does the Chancellor have such a blind spot for anything that might tackle the excesses of the aviation industry? #Budget
Building the equivalent of the UK's second biggest airport right next to its largest?
Moving the M25?
Increasing noise pollution and air pollution for Londoners?
The UK faces many challenges. Heathrow expansion is not the answer to any of them - and is insanity in a climate crisis.
"Whilst the Government support for airport expansion has been largely based on its expectation of economic growth, the Government has been unable to direct the Committee to any evidence that supports its assertion."

It really cannot be emphasised enough that facing devastating global climate tipping points we need to be reducing our emissions, NOT increasing them by, for example, massive airport expansion.
Do we need to say it louder for those at the back?

Who's going to tell the aviation industry?
Claims we can expand aviation massively and still avoid climate breakdown are based on carbon offsetting.* Which as people have been pointing out for decades, doesn't work.

"Aviation expansion is not about fairness, nor the economy, and certainly not the climate. Behind slick and carefully crafted headlines, it is about privilege; protecting the frequent-flyer advantages of the few, paid for by all, while sacrificing the many."

The emissions of 100,000 extra flights a year can't be magicked away by so-called 'sustainable' aviation fuel. Yet somehow our politicians think we can still hit our climate targets at the same time as expanding airports.
Our petition to stop airport expansion is still live 👇
Petition has passed the threshold for a response: "Stop airport expansion: halt all airport expansion plans across the UK"
The government will respond to this petition as it has 10000 signatures
#PetitionAwaitingResponse
Yet another piece of research which makes it harder to claim that 'sustainable' aviation fuels are the magic solution to allow expansion of aviation without damaging our climate targets.
(clearly it will be completely ignored by government)
This is important - there are huge questions over the supply (and sustainability) of 'sustainable' aviation fuels.
They emit the same as conventional fuel when burned, AND aviation has a hidden climate impact from releasing water vapour and other emissions at altitude, often ignored.
Some recent headlines:
"UK hottest summer ever, with drought across much of England"
"Deadly floods in Pakistan"
"Scientists warn of Atlantic current collapse if we don't stop burning fossil fuels"
We can't afford to expand airports in a climate emergency - please sign and share this petition.
Among the speakers at Reform UK's conference, starting today, are extreme climate deniers, some close to Trump's regime and 'Project 2025'.
Heathrow is sponsoring an 'airport lounge' at the event.
There are million excellent reasons to conserve and restore forests, and increase forest cover
But when it comes to mitigating climate change, there is no alternative but to stop burning fossil fuels
This is the reality of climate change. This is why we must not let airports expand
⚖️Are countries legally on the hook for including non-CO2 emissions from aviation in their climate plans?
A legal analysis conducted at the request of T&E and @opportunitygreen.org says YES.
But not one country has done this so far.

Anyone remember the #ExtremeCivilisation hashtag @georgemonbiot.bsky.social had going on Twitter a few years ago?
"The travel trend involves flying out first thing in the morning and exploring a new place for several hours before flying home in the evening on the same day."
Climate crisis anyone?
A reminder re Heathrow mega-expansion plans:
1. Airport tarmac is not economic growth fairy dust
2. Massive aviation expansion is not compatible with our climate targets
3. No, 'sustainable' aviation fuels won't make much difference. Maths.
Sign & share for a moratorium on all airport expansion:
Heathrow mega-expansion (adding what would effectively be the country's second biggest airport right next to its largest) would wreck our climate targets and harm local communities.
Airport expansion is out of control - sign and share for a moratorium now: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/71...
