Enrober - Wikipedia

Initially, I thought it was a bad translation of a French product (these sorts of biccies are called “enrobĂ©s” in French) but it seems it’s a technical term in the industry, which doesn’t make it look any less daft on the packaging, mind. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrober...

Despite some crossover, the early FN wouldn't have been overly identified in France with the Nazis, or even Pétain, but rather inter-war far-right. Claude Autant-Lara, a big pre-New Wave director, was an early FN member, and later MEP (and also directed Bardot in En Cas de malheur in 1957).

The FN was not founded till 1972 so French Algerian seats wouldn't have been a factor. Elected representatives prior to 1964 were diverse, being made up of pieds noirs and Algerian Muslims, reflecting the political spectrum in the Métropole. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_d...

It was the bedrock of their support in the 1970s and 1980s (and the elder Le Pen was a torturer in the Algerian War) but the founders were a broadish coalition of nationalists, neonazis and, also leaders of the pied noir OAS.

Not an expert opinion but my father was just telling me that Ireland was supposedly considerably less humid till around 2000 BCE, so the sun might have been a more reliable collaborator back in the day.

Not particularly topical but Aidan Higgins's Balcony of Europe, set in Nerja, is one of the great expats-in-Spain novels. Ian Gibson's Lorca's Granada is also good.

Here are some tweets from Charlie Kirk over just the last few days. They are an impressive mix of hatred towards: Blacks, immigrants, women, immigrants, Muslims, LGBTQ, academics.

His killing was a tragedy, and we should say so. But let's not go so far as to airbrush out his spreading of antisemitism, Islamophobia and disinformation: this is not "practicing politics the right way".

Opinion | Charlie Kirk Was Practicing Politics the Right Way

I feel like I am taking crazy pills. Charlie Kirk’s ultimate goal, which he said time and time again, would have been the suppression, through threat of violence and the use of state power, of the rights of those he disagreed with, including freedom of expression.

Even in the second half, that performance was wretched. Just launch it into the box and hope someone gets on the end of it. Blessed to get the draw but it doesn’t bode well for the rest of the group.

At the rate the Israeli army is killing journalists in the Gaza Strip, there will soon be no one left to inform you.
The editorial committees of France 24 and RFI, along with those of roughly 40 other French media outlets, are signatories of this statement in support of our colleagues in Gaza.
