I spent most of last year working on this mural for a new theatre space at the Children's Museum. The theatre is also a meeting space for a hawk-watching group so the mural features local hawks, birds, and plants. The flowers on the pillars separating the walls are the state flower, Sego Lily.

Heroes Factman and Giggles are trapped by the evil Platypus. They're tied up by rope, hanging above a massive chemical weapon that is being circled by a pool of sharks. Factman uses his powers (fact-based), to fight off the Platypus and his henchmen.

The power of Factman's facts causes the rope to snap. Factman catches the rope and his sidekick Giggles, so that they don't fall into the pool of hungry sharks, but at the last minute they see that the massive chemical weapon is about to detonate! Factman spews a fact tornado that defeats the enemies and stops the weapon. He then passes out. Later, Factman and Giggles are chatting, and Factman accidentally shares a fact and blasts Giggles out of frame. He remarks that he doesn't always know his own strength, and runs after Giggles. The end.

This snowy scene for Spark Kid's Magazine was a joy to work on as the weather started to feel cold. I love snow when I don’t have to go anywhere and can be cozy inside (I would be the character in the window here). This was a fun one.

This illustration is part of the puzzles section of AQUILA Children's magazine. It features historical figures from the Tudor Era sitting around the table. They are looking at one another suspiciously and embarrassingly, as they (and the viewer) try to uncover who tooted at the table (and in front of the king!).

The first of two illustrations for the December issue of AQUILA Children's Magazine! Loved the opportunity to go the library to pick up some Tudor history and fashion books to learn more about these historical figures. Post-Thanksgiving, this goofy illustration feels particularly relevant!

Sketchbook gouache still life from my Color & Space class at KCAI.

I like painting along with my students every once in a while because it helps me articulate how I think and make decisions while I work. It's also just fun!

I won’t be able to make it this year, but I had so much fun at Comics Camp last year! It’s so creatively enriching and refreshing, fun, and beautiful! I hope to make it back soon.

I've been meaning to bring a sketchbook to watch live music and finally remembered today! Live music feels fleeting and special and it's fun to try to capture that in the moment.

These are from today's Bridge 909 session (a quick set and interview with the local indie station) with King Princess.

Sketchbook comic.

Panel 1: a disembodied voice says “I KNOW a.i. is ethically, ecologically and esthetically awful, but I just gotta say…”
Lucy is reacting with a ._. Face and thinking “do ya? Do ya really GOTTA?”

Panel 2: Lucy’s thought bubble reads: “do you just GOTTA recite some tired anecdote using the phrase ‘I just typed it in!’ That just amounts to you admitting that your cheapness, laziness and poor taste outweighs your unexamined ethical code?”

Panel 2: another disembodied voice is saying “Lucy! You’re an artist— whattaya think about a.i? Ya know, it may be bad, but I JUST GOTTA SAY…”
Lucy is startled, dropping a chip.

Panel 2: she is fleeing the repeated “gotta say”s, yelling “you gotta live with yourselves, but I don’t gotta!”

A note with a heart at the end reads “stop doing this I will not absolve you.”
