Philosophically, I reckon this is just what happens when we grant salutary neglect to powerful people. I'm of the school of thought that the more power your public office grants, the more aggressively, *offensively* invasive oversight should be.

My most boomer take: Anime frankly peaked when, by convention, they had 21-24 episodes to tell their story and fuck off forever. They had to keep it tight and tell a good story efficiently to get their next series funded. This seems like the market incentive for a story with no expected end point.
