I like to know if I almost made it. Too many form rejections with no details at all can get demoralizing, and if I almost made it, I'm encouraged to keep trying other things (or the same story other places)
Grape hyacinth, violas, alkanet, comfrey, heather and saxifrage from the garden. 28.03.26
There’s neuroscientific evidence that looking at beautiful things, esp. plants & pausing to take in the details can alleviate stress & lift mood. Found these in the garden just now-they’re in a pale blue Victorian ink bottle. Pause to give your brain a small rest 🧠🌿
Just started Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle, and I'm already intrigued by the unsettling Who Framed Roger Rabbit vibes in the first chapter
It’s wild how much of the solution here is just “invest in humans”
I don't remember seeing an image of Earth before that captures the (thin, fragile, tiny layer of) atmosphere so clearly. I mean, look at that.

Happy International Asexuality Day!!!🖤🩶🤍💜
I will never write anything better than this and I am at peace with that
Yes it is, my contracts specify humans have to do cover art, editing, translation, etc. I will note that to date I have had no real resistance to these contract points by my publishers. So, really, if these points are not in your contract, ask for them (or have your agent ask for them).
THIS. The vast majority of the insights I depend on as a writer (and digital artist) have arrived as a byproduct, usually serendipitously, of the “grunt work.” There is NO Quick Easy Trick into the mastery of craft. Anyone claiming otherwise is lying, and likely also trying to sell you something.
white cardstock sign that says "No Kings, No Dictators" in red and black paint, followed by the No Kings logo, a crown symbol with an x over it
I went to my neighborhood's protest, and it was a good time. Windy, but plenty of cars honking happily in solidarity #NoKings
Find your protest! Make your signs! Tell all of your family and friends! Take back our country! We The People are bigger and better than this kleptocracy!!! SHARE ON ALL SOCIAL MEDIA AND BEYOND! ----SATURDAY, MARCH 28TH, 2026----

The best way to battle that is to make the whole process more thoughtful and transparent. Let editors work with authors to develop a story before it gets pushed through production. Publishes stories that people believe in, not just cynical cash grabs. Fix the culture; don't go on a witch hunt (2/2)
This is an industry issue, not a few bad-faith actors. I think that publishing's recent years of skimming on book development and laying off editorial staff en masse has allowed the possibility of finger point claiming that "AI got in." (1/2)
A noir-toned background image of a rainy city skyscape, birds flying with a backdrop of smeared neon lights, with a detective standing on a rooftop in long coat and hat. Left-justified text on the image reads "open call for novellas, opens: 4.01.26, closes: 4.30.26." The Ruadán Books logo is centered above the text.
We open to novella manuscripts on 4/1! We're looking for dark thrillers, crime noir, & dark speculative fiction—if you've got a complete novella (25k-40k words) that fits, we want to hear from you.

I hope Danhausen is happy. Am I going to start watching WWE now? No. But I am enjoying seeing clips of his backstage antics on IG
Just finished Strange Houses by Uketsu, and yeah, that would be pretty messed up
I recommend the vampire cats
I'm determined to do it well and become better because of it

Today is a good day. Sunny weather (even if the wind is cold). Signed a contract to publish a short story. Petted two fluffy dogs. Talked on the phone to my dad, my mom, and my sister. Wrote ~1,000 words
Oh hey, I finished a new zine. Come take a tour through my haunted garden . . . meganreneedoyle.com/journal/2026...
It's World Book Day, so I'll share what I'm currently reading: The Entanglement of Rival Wizards by Sara Raasch. I'm only a few chapters in, but in true S Raasch fashion, the POV character feels so strongly, it's impossible not to get sucked in
What is cozy horror?

I shared some thoughts about reading through Save the Cat Writes Horror and doing some of its exercises. It's always good to have another tool in your belt

This is that sign you needed that you should definitely keep creating. Go.
Wow! What sounded like the entire AEW Dynamite audience in Las Vegas tonight chanted "Fuck ICE! Fuck ICE!" in unison before the main event
