The way that some "sustainable slow fashion" content creators will preach the value of buying your clothing from ethical sources & then collab with the likes of Urban Outfitters or H&M pisses me off. I won't maintain a connection with someone who doesn't stand ten toes down on their values.

Outfit layering tip you might not've thought of yet - your skirts can also be worn at the bust as mini dresses & mini skirts!

You should beautify the ritual of getting dressed and imbue yourself with an intentional aesthetic value that is true to *you!*

Go out of your way to obtain the finest garments that you're able to, seek out your favorite textures and colors and silhouettes. You're worth it!

I know this is a bit more metaphysical than people are used to seeing from me, but I feel there is a psychological and personal benefit to slow and thoughtful consumption just as there is a moral imperative to do so.

I know that finding higher-quality, ethical brands is a challenge for many. You can use goodonyou.eco to check out the ethics of various brands and find a great many lists of sustainable brands that cater to your needs!

And it's also important to remember that when it comes to new clothes, a higher price tag doesn't automatically equal higher-quality, but you can get nice, sustainably and ethically-made clothes new for the same price that you can get clothes from Zara or Anthropologie.

I'm not saying you shouldn't ever buy garments priced under $20, of course.

In fact, thanks to the thriving secondhand market, you can find tons of high-quality garments online or in-person for around that price range.

Having fewer, nicer garments has enriched my life, and taking the time to pick out higher-quality items means I will have the chance to create decades worth of memories in them. I will relive those beautiful moments of my life every time I wear my clothes - every single day.

My clothes, now, are blessings to me, because when I wear that dress, I remember that it's the dress I wore to the mikveh, the dress I wore on that nice date with my partner, the dress I wore to a friend's wedding, the dress I wore to take a walk in the park on a nice evening.

Now, that nice dress is imbued not just with beauty and intention, but memories, which are another thing central to Jewish culture.

When someone passes away, we say, "may their memory be a blessing."

The difference in how I felt wearing $20 Forever 21 clothes that I could buy often and in a $180 dress from a sustainable brand that I saved up for was so stark, I felt 10x more confident and in tune with the world at large. I wear that dress all the time and it's so rewarding!

My body lets me feel the touch of my loved ones and the sound of songbirds and the laughter of children - of course I want to honor it by dressing it in a way that is pleasing to me! Of course I want to clothe it in the finest garments I can find!

I want you to consider the beautification of the ritual of getting dressed.

This is a concept that you don't need to be religious to revere. It is a great miracle that you're alive and your body is a blessing that allows you to feel the sun on your skin!
