I spent last week in Snowbird, Utah, at the inaugural in-person conference of the Cloud-Native Geospatial Forum (CNG). Here are my takeaways from this incredible gathering of collaboration-minded geospatial professionals.

🧪 Tip: You have the right to contest a grant termination, even though NSF says you don't. 🧵

On Friday, NSF terminated 402 grants (per Musk's DOGE).

The notification letters had one of the most egregious violations of fed regulations I've seen so far in these cases:

"not subject to appeal"

I heard from a few folks that "maintenance" is related to one of the new executive orders, that mandate websites must be taken offline until all mention of DEI are removed. I briefly searched through some of the executive orders, but found no mention of websites, so it is probably broader in scope.

I worked as a hydrologist at an environmental consulting firm specializing in mining waste protection/remediation, and got to be friends with the folks who had access to the big plotters.
