To be clear, North Americans say moose, but the animal is an elk. Early European settlers had not seen them as they were extinct in much of western Europe outside Scandinavia, & so adopted an Abnaki name. This was then adopted in Britain over the forgotten elk.

Rebirding by Benedict Macdonald is also a very good book on this, once you get past the 100 pages of "we have so fucked our countryside".

Exactly. Brambles = flowers as well, & the dense bushes that protect small birds!

They should read 'Wilding'!

If they want oak, then they need to allow some brambles first to protect the saplings.

But honestly, councils and other orgs get tree planting so wrong so often.

This looks like a Caucasian oak - Quercus macranthera or maybe Quercus cerris, Turkey oak - either way non-native & should not be planted I would say.

A14 tree planting - why are they dying and how to fix it Questions arise about why some tree-planting schemes fail and what can help them thrive.

Why not do the obvious - plant the tree seeds! eg acorns, etc - they will establish much better. Also, put pioneer trees in first - like birch, then go back after they establish & plant more broad-leaf species.
