The 2025 War on the Rocks Summer Fiction Reading List - War on the Rocks Forget the algorithm — this list was created by the humans who bring you War on the Rocks. Here, they share some of their favorite works of fiction. Kerry

I've been waiting for the @warontherocks.bsky.social summer reading lists every year - and truly honoured that this year's list includes my recommendations as well: Mornings in Yenin (Susan Abulhawa) and The Joy Luck Club (Amy Tan).

Without dignity, leaders fell at Trump’s feet in The Hague – and for what? All Nato’s key problems remain | Martin Kettle The relationship with him is still volatile, the Ukraine strategy still unclear and Europe needs to ensure its collective defence, says Guardian columnist Martin Kettle

OK, so maybe a Nobel Ceasefire Prize, after all? But a very gold and shiny one. And need to do it fast, before we have to bomb again the nuclear program that just got forever obliterated

yes sadly

It's much worse than that (but has a LinkedIn feel to it). It's all so naive and cringeworthy and I can't take any more of the schmoozing & massaging of Trump's ego by Rutte, Starmer and Merz. They really need to work on their messaging skills, among others

I can't take any more of this, it's so embarrassing

Correct. When Trump withdrew from the JCPOA in May 2018, he made it the policy of the United States that every country should have an active nuclear weapons program.

Today he made it clear they need to develop functional nuclear weapons as soon as possible. Nothing else can prevent a U.S. attack.

Trump’s Memorandum Authorizing Military Domestic Deployment "The Memorandum ... raises many of the same concerns as an Insurrection Act invocation would, and that could end up looking quite similar in practice."

"This is truly unprecedented. Preemptive nationwide deployment of the military is the very opposite of using the military as a “last resort.” ... it should raise a bright red flag for anyone concerned with the future of American democracy." www.justsecurity.org/114282/memor...

Is the AI Bubble About to Burst? | Verso Books In the years since Automation and the Future of Work first appeared, a new wave of technological enthusiasm has swept across the popular imagination. The catalyst this time has been the rapid advances in generative artificial intelligence, spearheaded by companies like OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Meta. Once again, a c

"The real threat posed by generative AI is not that it will eliminate work on a mass scale, rendering human labour obsolete. It is that, left unchecked, it will continue to transform work in ways that deepen precarity, intensify surveillance, and widen existing inequalities."

81 years ago in Normandy, the heroes of the Allied forces changed the course of global history.

Their bravery, their sacrifice, their courage brought freedom.

Europe is forever grateful. We remember them. We honour them.

This year, D-Day resonates so heavily--that the US, Canada, the UK, and others sacrificed so much on that day to liberate the continent from fascism and now the US is embracing it.
