This week, 116 people were stranded for four days on the Miskar offshore gas platform in the middle of the Mediterranean - among them two babies, one child, and several teenagers. They had fled Libya and were caught in a storm with winds up to 40 knots and 6-meter waves.

Our aircraft observed a damaged Russian tanker drifting unmanned through the Mediterranean for weeks: hundreds of tonnes of fuel oil, an environmental bomb. the Libyan state had to hire a private firm to deal with it. The further south it drifts, the less Europe acts. Sounds familiar?

We brought back 36 people to safety on the #OceanViking.

🚨 21 people, including a newborn, arrived last night on Farmakonisi. At 09:50 today all phones went offline near the military camp. Many who land here later “disappear,” later found adrift in life rafts. We hope this group was taken to safety, not pushed back.
