Theater poster for Project Hail Mary
Took my sons to see Project Hail Mary tonight. Definitely a fist my bump kind of film. Thumbs up. 👎🏼

I don’t think I realized I had any latent Challenger trauma until right about now
My kid’s like “neat!” and I’m like 🫣
Having watched 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple on Netflix last night, I realize that I too if faced with the end of the world would spend it singing and dancing along to Duran Duran records while stark naked and stoned out of my gourd.
Do I need to create a soundtrack for the novel I’m outlining, assigning each song to a scene? No, I don’t. Am I doing it anyway?
Yes. Yes, I am.
It was published months ago but I just caught this flash fiction while perusing Night Shades tonight. Good stuff. Reminded me a bit of Stephen King's "The Langoliers" and the film Dark City.
The interior of The Rook & Pawn cafe in Athens, GA
My daughter visited this board game cafe in Athens named The Rook & Pawn today and now I must make another trip up there with her soon.
I’m still waiting for that one to come to a streamer I subscribe to. I’ve read so many good things about it.
Promo image for the new Amazon Prime series Young Sherlock
Public domain has turned out some turds lately, but the eight episodes of Young Sherlock are thoroughly entertaining.
Library paperback copy of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by Quentin Tarantino
Spending a few hours with Quentin, Rick, and Cliff is a pretty good way to relax on a Saturday afternoon.
Nice. 42 sales is impressive.
If you want to develop a thick skin, try submitting short stories to paying markets. My current record is 20 sales out of 327 submissions. That's almost a 94% rejection rate. Who has me beat?
Promotional shot for the AppleTV series Foundation
I just finished watching the first three seasons of Foundation on AppleTV last night and I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it. A+ production values along with a solid story and cast. It doesn’t stick to Isaac Asimov’s books, but I’d argue that’s a good thing. Comparable to The Expanse.
Just took me out of the story a bit as did the graphic dump and the giant penis. Still, like its two sister shows, the strong characters and detailed world made for a fun ride.
I enjoyed Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms but the show runners made several odd choices over the course of its brief six episodes. Tonight it was the music.

Another Athens institution is set to become a ghost of the past this week.

The Season 2 finale of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout series aired last night so why not rank the all-time top movies and shows based on video games?

My current read “Writing for Emotional Impact” waiting for me in my home office leather chair.
Power outages across Atlanta are the perfect excuse to settle into a comfy chair and read a book.
Such beautiful creatures. Their internal clocks are a wonder. In this case it was one year, three days, and 40 minutes. It’s just outside the back window and I’ve never seen it other than these two occasions.
Red shouldered hawk perched in the woods of Alpharetta, GA
My red-feathered visitor is back almost a year to the day since last time. Exact same branch.
Just going to put this out there.
I’m going to continue to write the kind of stories I like to write. They’re the same kind of stories I like to read.
I’d like to sell some of them this year so you can read them too.
We should probably award sainthood to whoever invented the mute button.
The most money I’ve made on a short story sale is also the story that took the most submissions to sell. 29 turned out to be the magic number. You never know.
I despise commercial breaks but the variety of movies on Tubi is impressive.
I understand. “I already have too many subscriptions” ought to be the new tagline for my blog.
For anyone else searching for a positive spin on 2026.

You know it was a good book when you’re still thinking about the characters and wondering what they’re up to days after you finish reading it.
Even if 2025 wasn't one of my favorite years, I still give thanks for my favorite things it gave us including nods to the writing of @lorasenf.bsky.social @thomasha.bsky.social and @jeffsomers.bsky.social

I pay for subscriptions to Netflix, HBO Max, Prime Video, Hulu, Fubo, and Disney+ and I have accounts on both Tubi and PlutoTV yet I still can’t watch the Constantine series without paying another $12.99 to Amazon. Welcome to the age of streaming.
