I have no such powers

Hey friends - code completions are now available for GitHub Copilot in SQL Server Management Studio!
SSMS 22.2.1 dropped today - blog post with more info:

Final Friday Feedback of 2025 over on LinkedIn, if you want to weigh in!

Wednesday Wisdom: You can bring your own model (BYOM) to GitHub Copilot in SSMS with your personal subscription.
Also, we released SSMS 22.1 yesterday!

That colors the connection status bar for the editor, but it doesn't color the tab.
I know I ask you to visit the feedback site to report issues. Today, for Friday Feedback, I'm asking folks to go to a specific item and upvote it, if you're interested. Does auto-save and auto-reopen sound interesting? 🙃

Wait "tab border colors"? Where are you setting that?

Wednesday Wisdom - did you know that in SSMS 22, if you right-click on a tab in the editor, you have a couple new menu options? 😉
Also, not new in SSMS 22, but new to me: Copy Full Path and Open in File Explorer. I've used SSMS for 20 years...just learned about those today 😲
Without knowing more information, it's difficult to understand what else is at play. It takes 7 seconds on my machine, SSMS 21 takes 10 (not including connection dialog).
I'm honestly not sure what to tell you. Installing the tool is an extra step, it's not available by default, and it doesn't automatically apply hints. Applying hints using Query Store Hints is low risk and easy to un-do.
Yup. Thanks Alex.
If you're interested in GitHub Copilot in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) but haven't had time to check it out, tune in to this week's Data Exposed - hosted by the incomparable Anna Hoffman - to learn more:

Also, I'd argue that we are not "pushing" bad practices. We're providing a tool to help folks identify what hints may improve query performance.
What do you mean "like the index recommendations"? There's a time and a place for query hints - there are a lot of scenarios cannot change code directly (third party app) or immediately. Query Store Hints are a great solution in those scenarios, but how do you know which hint is "best"?
Windows ARM64.
What is "awhile"?
Hi - what version of SSMS are you using? We've made a quite a few improvements lately, not related to Copilot. I'd hate for you to be under the impression that's the only thing we've prioritized.
🚨 It's another two-for-Tuesday over in the SSMS team!
Announcing the release of SSMS 22 Preview 3 and SSMS 21.6!
SSMS 22 Preview 3 includes:
- GitHub Copilot in SSMS
- ARM64 support for core SSMS scenarios
Start with Makena's post: techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/sqlserv...
Enjoy! 👯♀️
We have a feedback item for this, and we don't have a fix yet, but it's something we are looking to address.
Two for Tuesday! SSMS 22 Preview 1 and SSMS 21.5 now available:

It's optional, you don't have to install the Copilot component if you don't want to use it. What are your other reasons for staying on an old version?
Hopped on to share the news that we'll be changing the copilot experience in SSMS to integrate with GitHub Copilot 😊

SSMS never automatically re-opened tabs after closing. The only scenario that occurs is when it crashes and it tries to recover them for you.
Are you looking for SQL 2025 support?
Those are the only ones supported.
Over a year in the making, we are thrilled to announce the GA release of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) 21, which includes Copilot in SSMS (Preview). Thanks to the all the engineers and many, many others who made this happen ❤️

Needless to say, I’m in the exit row.
Boarding a plane and on the jet bridge the very tall guy behind me said “I heard you say you’re in an exit row. Did you want to be in an exit row?”
Me: yes
Guy: I’ll trade you seats - I’ll buy you drinks.
Me: (he doesn’t say where his seat is) I don’t drink.
Guy: I can offer gift cards…
