Split image showing De Beauvoir Town before and after traffic filtering. The top black-and-white photo shows Northchurch Road lined with parked cars. The bottom modern colour photo shows the same street with bollards blocking through traffic; a person stands with a bicycle in the road while a child cycles nearby, with more greenery and a calmer, people-focused street scene.

52 years ago today, 8 April 1974, experimental road closures were introduced in De Beauvoir Town.

They were later made permanent, creating Hackney’s first low traffic neighbourhood: safer streets to travel through, & space for families & children to play

The BBC undercover investigation into false immigration claims is deeply irresponsible journalism. It does not highlight that exploitation by unregulated advisors occurs because legal aid was cut and the system is insane to navigate.

For the second day, the BBC are running a story that presents itself as providing evidence of endemic abuse of the asylum system based on seemingly a single encounter with someone who is neither a lawyer nor a registered immigration adviser. Words fail. This is reprehensibly irresponsible.

I hadn’t even looked but I assumed they would do more to reduce traffic than Labour.

I wouldn’t have thought for a second they‘d be against LTNs
