Speaking of Suzanne Moore, this is excellent archive.ph/50iTF

@harrietharman.bsky.social hasn’t the emotional intelligence to understand she wasn’t the right woman to comment about Jenni Murray on the BBC. It needed someone like Suzanne Moore who understands the great courage and integrity needed to sacrifice her job for women’s sex based rights

I am a patron of the arts! I contributed to a crowdfunder by poet, teacher and Quaker Rebecca Leek to publish her poem Elizabeth Fry Stops By, about the legacy of Elizabeth Fry and following the formation of the Cambridge Union Society Of Women. I now have five copies of this beautiful booklet

'Holywells Park, Ipswich', Thomas Gainsborough, c1750. John Cobbold bought the estate in 1812 and used the springs to make beer. Today a public park, a sign marks the spot where Gainsborough stood, though the foreground is now full of trees planted by the Cobbolds.

Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich.

Trust Uni of Oxford Prof Michael Foran to provide the authoritative explainer for the JR brought by the GLP and others v EHRC. Hopefully copies will be provided to MPs who clearly didn’t read the judgment before commenting. Link in comment

So depressing to see a Labour MP push misinformation like this.

The judgment @kateosbornemp.bsky.social refers to is here: goodlawproject.org/wp-content/u....

Will she say which paragraph/s say “the EHRC’s draft code of practice got the law wrong”? No. Because none do.

Your claim that the judgment "confirms that the EHRC's draft code of practice got the law wrong" is categorically untrue.

The judgment is not even about the code of practice - it's about the interim update. Every single argument made against the interim update was dismissed by the judge.

On this day in 1981, #SoftCell released their debut studio album, "Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret".

The album's success was bolstered by the popularity of the cover version of #GloriaJones song "Tainted Love", which topped the charts worldwide and became the second best-selling British single of 1981.

A sunny autumn day in a large garden. Warm sunlight glows on a serpentine wall, while an angular modern brick building shows its shadowed face beyond the trees and flower beds.

Beautiful day here at the Red House and its archive; fingers crossed we get the same for Britten's birthday tomorrow. (If you're around Aldeburgh on Saturday, drop in - it's free, there's cake, and I'm doing Stories from the Archive talks several times in the day.)

Blyth Reform councillor Barry Elliott's property firms owe customers £140,000 Property companies owned or run by Barry Elliott owe tens of thousands of pounds to customers.

This story about a Reform councillor in Northumberland has about three different massive stories in it.

He's accused of ripping off his constituents to the tune of £140k.

He owes his own council nearly £40k in unpaid tax.

His own council is suing him.

The jobs disabled people are pushed towards - and what they really need Campaigners warn the Government's approach risks trapping disabled people in unsuitable roles

🗣️“Cutting support does not lead to people getting work. Those of us pushed into work by cuts will end up in precarious jobs, we will be there for a few months before the work has made us even sicker.”

The Waspi women were lied to Their campaign became the tool of cynical politicians.

The only compensation the Waspi women should receive is an apology from the bullshitters who have strung them along for years on the promise of extra cash to which they have never been entitled. www.newstatesman.com/politics/202...

Why Equality Law Compliance Belongs in Risk Management — Not Human Resources – Audrey Ludwig

I am proud to be a free speech, free association, freedom of belief ( and lack of belief) universal human and equality rights bore. Yes it means defending some horrible and even offensive stuff. But the authoritarian, undemocratic alternatives are way, way worse .

Disabled Nigerian man living in UK for 38 years wins appeal against deportation Anthony Olubunmi George, who arrived in 1986 and has no criminal convictions, given right to remain

Advocates of the UK Home Office/ministers getting more or less unlimited discretion to decide deportation cases, free from any real substantive judicial scrutiny, should be asked about this case.
