And if they weren’t taking deer their presence would at least keep the deer on their toes and moving, which also mitigates forest damage

Nonsense of course from the dog-owner, wherever it was, but were you actually in a country park ?

Know what you mean, but this did need reporting
I do hope that the request for a fine is revoked. I don’t pour liquid in bins. And as for the gutter, gallons/tons of nasties are egested from vehicles all the time that end up in the gutter
Polanski didn’t
Don’t beat yourself up about it. As much meat & dairy as you can comfortably reduce is a very good contribution. I think there’s more overall consumption reduction by getting a big cohort to reduce (fairly substantially) than pushing hard for complete veganism
Would be a great (probably hard to define) win, but it will take too long to not be tackling food production in parallel
I don't want to get all Chesterton's Fence here, but if you don't understand that a "microscopic snail" is an indicator species that's protected for the health of the entire ecosystem, you probably shouldn't be forming "good relationships" with developers

'Our capability to observe the Earth's energy imbalance and budget terms is threatened as satellites are decommissioned'
And now it's (temporarily? 🤞) not being updated.
We need more CERES satellites.
Can @esa.int @esaclimate.bsky.social @ecmwf.int and others help?

Ash dieback playing out like a high impact, low frequency event, like a hurricane, that periodically devastate and re-shape woodlands. The canopy is now all dead here, but look at that dense regeneration of hawthorn, blackthorn, field maple and some oaks.
Excellent. 35mm in UK VistaVision screenings
70mm ?
A lot of the BBC “in depth” articles are interesting and very informative, but this one was written by Nick Robinson so what was everyone really expecting ?
Ian Carter and myself argued this point here www.whittlespublishing.com/Great_Miscon... - species with high dispersal capacity can typically naturally recolonise suitable habitats IF the original drivers of declines have been remediated.
Why isn’t THIS the front page story right now? Net migration to the UK halved from 2023 to 2024 (Government data shared by The Guardian). There is no problem with migration in the UK, it is fiction whipped up by the press. BBC News should be the one presenting these facts.
Went again last night. Still excellent

NEW REVIEW! I saved a good one for the first day of this new government - this week, I check out the quite remarkable Dough Bros: ediblereading.com/2024/07/05/r... #rdguk
What a brilliant photo. I don’t know what they might be saying
I don’t think it was clear who won the debate. Both were articulate. Zack got his points across well. Adrian sounded sensible. Adrian probably favoured by the Today audience, but Zack might’ve chipped a few off in his direction
Just been to the Birtwhistle / Beethoven Prom. Both magnificent in different ways. With Birtwhistle, and its like, I think the trick is to experience it rather than trying to get it. On the other hand someone standing near me was looking at the Birtwhistle score while listening ! That’s next level
