-The mid-winter break is quickly approaching. All schools, including the early start and balanced year schools, will be closed for learning from March 16 – 20.

YRDSB wishes students, families and staff a safe and enjoyable break.

-Indigenous Languages and International Languages:

Parent engagement events are underway across 22 sites, including the new Keswick site serving the Georgina Family of Schools. These events showcase student learning,
celebrate linguistic diversity, and strengthen home–school connections.

-Caring and Safe Schools, in collaboration with ISCS and other departments, is preparing the release of a tip sheet and professional learning resources for elementary
educators focused on proactive and responsive strategies to support positive classroom behaviour.

-In alignment with the Ministry’s learning on Tackling Racism, ISCS consultants have been working with schools to support the implementation of newly launched Inclusive Education resources.

- A Board-wide Chinese Heritage Month celebration at Bur Oak Secondary School brought together a large, diverse group of students, families, staff, and community members.

-As part of the ongoing Understanding and Navigating the Education System series, ISCS and the Centre for Black Student Excellence hosted a system-wide online learning
session focused on pathway opportunities for families of Black students.

-YRDSB is inviting families and community members to participate in the annual budget
consultation process.

- The online survey is scheduled to open March 24 and will
be available until April 17. The information session will be held virtually next month on
April 13.

-As the Board implements the YRDSB Transition Strategy: Towards Disability Justice, students and families are invited to meet with the Accessibility Offices of 16 post secondary institutions & the Regional Assessmentmand Resource Centre (RARC).

-Students now have access to Google Gemini’s AI tools, including Gemini, Notebook LM and Gems.

-Starts by thanking Applause recipients for their comments about how their school communities have supported them in reaching their achievements.

-The Director congratulates the newly elected student trustees.

-Concerns have been raised by Indigenous trustees about a lack of representation in boards under supervision.

Next is the OPSBA report:

-They met on February 28th.
-In January they had the Public Education Symposium.
-OPSBA's AGM is in June and will be in Ottawa.
-OSPBA has launched a campaign about the importance of trustees.

-Attended OSTA-AECO conference in Ottawa where they connected with other student trustees.

Now to the Student Trustee Report:

-February 24th they hosted their 2nd Presidents' Council Meeting.
-70 student leaders attended from 24 secondary schools.
-Discussed concerns about administrative delays when planning events and purchasing struggles.

Now they are on to special announcements where they are recognizing the following:

-Bangladeshi Heritage Month
-Hellenic Heritage Month
-Persian Heritage Month

The 2nd Applause recipient is:

-Director wishes everyone observing Ramadan a safe fast in the month ahead.

-Director ends his report by recognizing a few staffing changes.

-Lunar New Year is February 17 and many schools recognize Lunar New Year through learning opportunities that deepen students’ understanding of this annual celebration.

-February 16 is Family Day and all YRDSB schools and offices will be closed to observe
the holiday.

-February is Black History Month & YRDSB continues to work towards advancing inclusion through meaningful action. Efforts include strengthening inclusive curriculum materials, supporting Black student achievement & well-being &
continuing to implement Board’s Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Strategy

-January 27 was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In recognition of the day, YRDSB shared instructional, professional learning and wellbeing resources to assist staff in teaching about the Holocaust in developmentally appropriate
and inclusive ways.

-YRDSB’s Director’s Annual Report, which includes information
from the previous school year as well as the current year where available, is currently being revised and is posted on the Board’s website.
